Roderick A. Avery

RODERICK ANTHONY AVERY answered God's call on August 24, 2025, as he took his mother's hand as she welcomed him into the heavenly gates. Born on January 19, 1972, Roderick's life was a testament to love, kindness, and living authentically. His passing leaves a void that words can not fill, but we find peace knowing he is now with God and reunited with his mother. Roderick's greatest joy in life was his family. His love for them wast with them, and he made every moment spent with them meaningful, always focused on creating new memories and cherishing the time they had together. He was a devoted son, brother, and friend, and his family was his greatest source of pride and happiness. A well-educated and driven individual, Roderick achieved much in his life. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he went on to earn his master's degree, demonstrating his commitment to knowledge and personal growth. He was always learning, seeking ways to improve himself, and using his education to make a positive impact on those around him. Roderick was a driven and dedicated manager for Sodexo for over 20 years. He took pride in exceeding expectations daily. At the time of his passing he was the Senior Director of Food & Nutrition at Washington Hospital Center. Roderick lived life on his own terms. He did things his way, embracing challenges with a quiet strength and grace that inspired everyone who knew him. His independent spirit, deep sense of self, and strong will guided him through life, making him a true example of how to live authentically and with purpose. He was also a man of great generosity and compassion. Roderick's heart was always open to others. he gave selfessly, whether it was his time, his resources, or simply a word of encouragement. He believed in the power of kindness and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. His acts of service, big and small, left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Roderick made it home and is now reunited with his parents Edna Outten and Roger Avery Sr:; grandparents John & Beatrice Avery, Lillian Outten; aunt Gilda Williams and uncle Clarence Dixon. Roderick is survived by his beloved family, whose love and memories will keep his spirit alive forever. Siblings Rhondra Avery, Roger W. Avery Jr., Rosalyn Avery-Perry and Reginald Avery Sr.; brother in-law Muhammad Perry Sr.; sister in law Dana Avery; bonus siblings Sherry Jones, Curtis Whitaker (Bam) and Emmanuel Aston (Manny); nephews Dominique Battle, Muhammad Perry Jr. and Reginald Avery Jr.; nieces Re Niya Avery and Jazmine Avery; niece in law Takeria Perry; great nephew Kaden Perry; aunt Janis McKinstry; great aunt and uncle Samuel and Victoria Harriday and a host of family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will continue to inspire and guide us.. Rest in Paradise, Rod. You will never be forgotten, and we take comfort knowing you are home.
