Zenobia Cheatham Ford

Our dear loved one,Zenobia Cheatham Ford was born in Richmond,Va.on August 25,1924. She eased peacefully from this life into eternity at home in Richmond,Virginia on October 16, 2009.She is preceded in death by her parents,Sandy Alexander Cheatham and Adlee Hunter, brothers Sandy and Lynwood,and sister Hilda. Zenobia,fondly known as“Zee” by all her family and friends,graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1941.She was the first majorette at her high school.She was self-employed as a beautician at her parents’ business Cheatham and Brothers for over 45 years. Zenobia truly cherish her time spent with her children, grand- children,and great-grandchildren, other family members and friends. Every year she remembered all of the birthdays and gave a love offering to her family and close friends. In her earlier years, Zenobia attended Hood Temple A.M.E.Zion Church,and sang in the choir. She was the essence of inner beauty as well as outer beauty. She had a smile that could soften the hardest of hearts. As a child and into her adult life,she was very generous.She was“not”a woman who desired fine clothes,cars or jewelry.Her needs were undemanding.Her life was uncomplicated.Her legacy is one of giving and sharing. Those who knew Zenobia well were touched by the love she exhibited each and every day.Her love would come by way of the U.S.mail wishing you a Happy Birthday.Her love would come by a knock on your door wanting to make sure you were alright.Her love would come by a few simple words telling you how proud she was of your accomplishments. Her love would come by the way of a telephone call just to say“Hello.”To know Zee was a privilege.To love Zee was an honor.To have been a part of her circle of family and friends was a tremendous blessing.Her lessons of love,compassion,giving, sharing, honor and respect will never be forgotten. Zenobia leaves innumerable memories which will always be in the hearts of her sons,George B. Ford, Jr.and Walter Ford;daughters,Sandra Harris,Sheila Brown,and Sylvia Hurdle;thirteen grandchildren,six great-grandchildren;aunts,Willie Mae Vincent and Marie Goodman Hunter; two sisters-in-law, Mary E. Cheatham of Willingboro,New Jersey,and Mary J.Cheatham of Richmond,Virginia;two sons-in-law, William Harris III and Louis Brown Sr.;her lifetime companion,Joseph H.Greene;three devoted friends,Mrs.Virginia Hill,Mrs.Sylvia Terry and Ms. Marion Wells;a host of loving nieces,nephews,cousins and friends.
