Rev. Walter Charles Robinson Sr.

On Monday, August 3, 2026, Walter C. Robinson, Sr. peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal home. He was born on July 22, 1954, in Gloucester, Virginia, to the late James Thomas and Julia Robinson. Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Al Columbus Robinson; sister, Sherell Andrews; and his devoted and loving mother-in-law, Velma B. Smith, who was like a second mother to him. He earned his high school diploma from Eagle High School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky while enlisted in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne. Walter served his country proudly and received an honorable discharge. Walter attended Virginia Union University, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Virginia Seminary and Richmond Virginia Seminary. Walter was also Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Cedar Street Memorial Baptist Church of God under the leadership of the late Dr. Benjamin W. Robertson, Sr. He received his license to preach from St. John’s Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. Rev. Robinson faithfully served as an associate minister at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church and St. Joseph’s Holiness Church, both in Richmond, Virginia. He was truly a man of God who loved the Lord and cherished his family. Walter was a dedicated and hardworking man who retired from F. Richard Wilton Contractors in 2020 after 40 years of faithful service. His life was a testament to his faith, devotion, and love for those around him. Walter was a kind person with a gentle personality. He traveled up and down the highways with various gospel groups playing his favorite instrument, the bass guitar. He played the guitar for several gospel groups including, The Gospel Ravens, The Shining Lights, and The Original and New Golden Jubilees. During his tenure with Golden Jubilees, he began a radio ministry with WCLM 1450 am that lasted over 25 years. Walter leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted and loving wife, Sharon S. Robinson; one son Walter C. Robinson, Jr.; two sisters, Rev. Lenora Peabody (Albert), and Barbara Walker (Atiim); two brothers, Minister Batin Muhammad (Kamaria), and Elwood Robinson, Sr. (Denise ); one aunt, Rose Jackson of Philadelphia, PA; three sisters-in-law, Dawn Harris (Alfred), Gloria Brown, and Shelia Harris; one devoted brother-in-law, Nathaniel Smith, Jr. (Darlene) and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves his son’s devoted godparents, Nathaniel and Marian Christian, devoted friends, Deacon Thomas L. Hayes, Sheron Bramble, Janice Nelms, and Faye Ball.
