Virginia McCall

VIRGINIA MCCALL, daughter of the late Andrew Sr. and Lottie Fleet was born on January 29, 1915 in Baltimore, Maryland. Virginia went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2006. She went peacefully in her sleep.Virginia was raised in Baltimore, Maryland and educated in the Baltimore Public Schools. She was employed by Sinai Hospital for several years and also worked in the food service industry at Lexington Market until her retirement in 1969.Virginia was married to the late Walter McCall, Jr. on July 18, 1941. Out of their union were three children, Andrew, Margaret and Juanita. Virginia was affectionately known by her loving family, as “Ginny, Mother, Nana and Mother Dear”.She was a devoted lifelong member of Memorial Baptist Church. Virginia was baptized at the early age under the pastorate of C. Edward Browne. Virginia was the descendant of one of the founders of Memorial Baptist and worshipped through the years under the guidance of the late Pastor Angus Smith and Pastor Calvin E. Keene. Virginia was a Deaconess and a Missionary. She was faithful, devoted, and loved her church. Virginia was a diligent worker in the service of the Lord, throughout her life. At and early age, Virginia served on the Junior Choirs, Pastor’s Aide, and the Usher Board. She was a faithful member for well over 80 years at Memorial Baptist.Virginia loved her family. She was family oriented. She adored her grandchildren and marveled over her great-grandchildren. She loved and insisted upon frequent family gatherings, where she would cook the best fried chicken and delicious pies. Virginia would set the grandest and most eloquent table settings for each and every meal. She had a great sense of humor and loved to talk about her church and events and affairs that they had. Virginia liked working with the seniors and assisting the elderly. Virginia enjoyed shopping and loved her home. She never missed any of her grandchildren’s birthday, graduation, weddings, Holiday Celebrations; especially Christmas. Virginia would decorate her home months before Christmas with lots of decorations. Her grandchildren will always remember her telling them that “I got a piece of money for you”.Her legacy would be to tell the family, “to stay together, love one another, and always love the Lord, to find Jesus for yourself and let him make you anew”.All of us will miss her, her warm laughter, her gentle smile, and always cheerful sense of humor. Her memory will be etched in our hearts forever. We all only wish that we had more of our Virginia’s life to share. She would always say “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”.Virginia leaves behind, her beloved son, Andrew McCall. Beloved daughters, Margaret Rogers and Juanita McCall; daughter-in-law, Marjorie McCall; son-in-law, Ellwood Russell; six beloved grandchildren, Andrew McCall; Monica McCall; Walter McCall; Vincent McCall, Lisa Parker and Timothy Rogers; ten precious great grandchildren, Shakira, Telia, Dion, Trevon, Rayvaughn, Tyler, Daisha, Olivia, Eason and Camille, and a host of relatives and friends.
