Viola Aileen Burton

On Saturday, July 12, 2008, God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to receive Viola Aileen Gray- Burton, unto himself.Viola Aileen Gray- Burton, was the beloved daughter of the late Youngie Purcell Gray and Viola Ford-Gray. Born the ninth of thirteen children, they were a close-knit family.On January 22, 1949, Viola joined in Holy Matrimony to the late, Maurice Earl Burton Jr. and from their union were born five lovely children; Maurice Earl Burton III, Merrick Eugene Burton, Marilyn Evoria Burton- Patterson, Michael Ernest Burton and Malcolm Elwin Burton.Viola received her education from the Baltimore City School System, where she later graduated from Frederick Douglass High School, the fourteenth of February in nineteen forty seven. She was employed with the Baltimore City Public School System and retired in June of 1990.Under the officiating, ministries of, Rev. James Wooten, Rev. Wesley Kelly and Rev. Lewis Keene, Viola was a dedicated and faithful member of Milton Avenue United Methodist Church. She actively served on the United Methodist Woman, Senior Usher Board, Alter Guild, Sanctuary Choir and faithly attended Sunday school and Bible Study. Decorating the Church bulletin boards was her greatest passion. Due to the unfortunate fire at Milton Avenue United Methodist Church, Viola along with other devoted members found a new home at Christ United Methodist Church, under Rev. Clarence Davis.Viola, loved to travel, take pictures, work with her hands and heart being creative, work hard, spend quality time with her family and friends and sit on her porch at 3010 helping people was her specialty, you could always rely and depend on Viola, Al, Vi or Burton, as she had many names and wore many hat’s.Preceding Viola in death; Maurice Jr., Maurice III. Marilyn, Michael and Malcolm (Burton).Viola leaves to mourn, one son; Merrick Eugene Burton-Gray, one daughter-in-law; Marie Burton, five grand-daughters; Shawan Evoria Patterson, Yolanda Burton, Brenda Burton-Haygood, Marilyn Burton-Cropper, Michelle Burton, four grandsons; Wilbert Earl Patterson Jr., Janial Williams, Michael Burton, Richard Burton, twelve great-grandchildren, (Girls) Marilyn Shanae Traynham, Mar’ Shay Shakayla Traynham, Alonda Goosby, Dahniyah Haygood, Amaniyah Haygood, Jasmine Cropper, (Boys) Mar’Shawn Shamont Williams, Kyle Patterson, Jeriah Myan Williams, Jordan Myron Williams, Dandre Goosby, Isaiah Burton, one great-great grandchild, Payton Jakayla Matthews, two sisters; Dorothy Gray-Jackson, Lucretia Gray-Carter, two brothers, Maurice Gray, Warren Gray, two very special friends; Mamie Ward and Gladys Buchanan, Viola has a host of other relatives and friends, who loved her dearly.
