Silas Nathaniel Dingle

SILAS NATHANIEL DINGLE, son of the late Robert and Rebecca Dingle, was born on May 5, 1918 in St. Stephen, South Carolina. Silas departed this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Frankford Nursing Home in Baltimore, Maryland. Through God’s wisdom, he was taken from his earthly labor to his eternal rest. At an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized. He attended public schools in Berkeley County and later attended a trade school in Akron, Ohio. Silas moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and it was at that time that he joined the United States Army. Later, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he lived for over thirty years. During Silas’ marriage to Annie Whitehead, they were blessed with two sons, Robert and Terry, both preceded him in death. Silas had a passion for children. In 1967, he founded the Association for the Betterment and Welfare of Children of the Future. The purpose of this organization was to rebuild the family structure in order to protect children, and to provide assistance and support. About eleven years ago, his niece, Althea Stockett, deemed it necessary to move Uncle Silas, (as he was affectionately known), to Baltimore. Althea was extremely dedicated in taking care of him, since his arrival. Everyone knew that outside of his family, there were two things that Uncle Silas loved… President Bush and his blue scooter. He would take every opportunity to tell you a story about both. When asked, “What is your religion?” He would answer, “I am a Christian American.” He truly loved his country and was committed to being an advocate for human rights. Silas leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted niece, Althea Stockett; a devoted great-niece, LaKiesha (Larry) Brown; a sister-in-law, Irma Dingle; one aunt, Dr. Lela H. Session; nephews, Charles (Nadine) Dingle, Ronnie (Maxine) Dingle, Anthony (Audrey) Dingle, Dale (Barbara) Dingle of South Carolina and Bobby Butler of New York City; nieces, Christine Butler, Diane Butler of New York City, Dean Williams (William) of South Carolina and Tonette (Lennard) Conner of Temple Hills, Maryland; great-nephews, Aundra Dingle of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Kevin (Dellarita) Thurman and Dwayne (Betty) Thurman; and a host of family and friends. He will be greatly missed!!
