Sadie L. Murphy

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and to me only, but unto all them that also that love his appearing.Ii Timothy 4:7-8 In the late afternoon hours of February 10, 2002, God looked over the balcony of glory, and saw the condition of his servant, Sadie L. Murphy at Good Samaritan Hospital. An angel was dispatched to her bedside, spoke softly to Sadie and said, “ Come unto me, I will relieve all your pain and suffering and give you rest.”Sadie L. Murphy was born on April 1, 1915 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Commodore and Annice Murph. She was the fifth child of eight siblings. In 1943, Sadie relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. It was here that she met her sweetheart and the father of her children, Melvin Massey. Sadie worked for a period of time at the Holtite Shoe and Sole Factory. She read her Bible daily, and before the onset of diabetes in the late 1980’s, regularly attended service at Morning Star Baptist Church. Sadie was a kind and loving person. She lived a very peaceful, humble, and simple life. She loved children. Over the years, she cared as much as possible for her children, grandchildren, and the children of others as well. Sadie leaves to cherish her memory: her former companion, Melvin Massey, Sr.; three daughters, Mary F. Glenn, Sarah A. Browner, Martha Taylor; five sons, Nathaniel Massey, Melvin Massey, Jr., James Massey, Daniel Massey, Isaiah Massey: three sisters, Clarice Baxter, Alfair Whetstone, Viola Robinson; one brother, Ezekial Murph; seven grandchildren, Karen Bryant, Darryl Glenn, Tiffany Wilson, Patrese Frazier, Kenyon Taylor, Kirsten S. Browner, Donald L. Browner, Jr.; ten great grandchildren, Katira Bryant, Shannon Williams, Coran Long, Brianna Long, Delvin Glenn, Dyniece Glenn, Darien Nunn, Adaira Brown, Brandon Frazier and Lauryn Frazier. She eternally joins her son, David Massey; two sisters, Bea Davis, Pearl Murph; two brothers, Theodore and Herman Murph. Other survivors include a host of nephew, nieces, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, cousins and friends.
