Roy "Chip" Delano Edwards

Legacy of Life Roy Delano Edwards, affectionately known as “Chip” went to his heavenly home on June 14, 2023. He was born in Richmond, Virginia July 21, 1958, to the late Roy Banks Edwards and Blanche Olivia Morris (Champion). Roy was educated in Richmond Public Schools and at an early age accepted Christ at Union Baptist Church in Charles City, Virginia. Though he may not have attended church as frequently as some, his covenant with the Lord was evident in his interactions. Chip consistently displayed unconditional love to those around him with hugs and smiles, truly embodying the teachings of his faith. Roy enlisted into the United States Marine Corp on October 2, 1980, at the age of 22 years old, and served his country proudly. He completed his time of service and was released on May 11, 1983, and received an honorable discharge. Roy’s passion and dedication was displayed in every job he did. In his younger years, he worked as a security guard. He then proudly worked as a Dispatcher for Prime Flight at the Richmond International Airport for 17 years. The outpouring of concern and support shown from his “work family” is an indication of Roy’s genuineness. Chip spent a lot of his younger years in Baltimore where he resided with his father and met most of his longtime friends. He was an energetic, fun-loving, kind, and gentle man who adored spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and had a unique fondness for animals. He knew several facts about almost every animal. Whether it was singing karaoke with family or watching the Animal Channel, Chip had an admirable ability to find happiness in his daily activities. He was considered the “life of the party” at every event and always kept a smile on his face. Chip was full of wit and skilled at making people laugh without trying, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Edwards. Roy’s memory will forever be cherished by his two beloved children Sumeco Yolanda Lewis and Alfred ‘AJ’ Foote; his mother Blanche Champion; stepfather, James “Champ” Champion; sister, Elisa Lang; brother, Brian Champion (Tationa); granddaughter, Daimesha Bradshaw; granddaughter, Janiyah James; great-grandson, Mason Walker; niece, Kiara Lang; niece, Brittany Wood; niece, Moneka Hughes; niece Tiffany Wagstaff, and a host of other beloved relatives and long-time friends. Roy’s big heart, sense of humor, and beautiful smile will be missed more than words can convey. May his joyous spirit continue to inspire us all. Let us take solace in the knowledge that he has found eternal peace in the loving embrace of the Lord.
