Rosabell Johnson Hubbard

On February 2, 2003, God, in His divine providence, decided to select another rose for His garden. He chose the soul of Rosabelle Johnson Hubbard.Rosabelle was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on February 1, 1930 to the late Ustate Johnson and late Priscilla Weston Johnson. At and early age, Rosabelle was baptized at Little Piney Grove Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.After graduating from the Virginia Beach Public Schools, Rosabelle moved to Baltimore to further her education. She attended Morgan State College and later received her degree in Education from Coppin State College. She taught school in the Baltimore City Public School System until she retired in 1983.Here in Baltimore, Rosabelle met and married John R. Freeman. From this union, they were blessed with four children, Deborah, Renie, Michael, and Stephanie.In 1977, Rosabelle married Leon Hubbard whom she affectionately called “Sweetheart”. They enjoyed twenty-five years of marriage.Wayland Baptist Church has been Rosabelle’s spiritual home for more than forty years. She raised her children in this church and recently served as a member of the Hospitality Committee until her illness prevented her from doing so.Rosabelle was a person who loved her family and friends dearly. Shopping, entertaining, traveling, and engaging in club activities were ways she enjoyed being with the people she cared about. For over forty years, she belonged to the Elhconip Club, which is a Pinochle club, and the Tenzettas Club which is a Pokeno club. Also, Rosabelle was a member of the Robin Hills Community Association.Rosabelle lived life with style, imagination, determination and grace. She was very generous, taking pleasure in giving gifts to others. Although she was outwardly quiet and delicate, Rosabelle possessed and inner strength which enabled her to “quiet a raging storm”. On of her dearest qualities was that she always took time to listen to the cares and concerns of her family and friends.To keep alive and cherish her memory will be: her loving husband, Leon Hubbard; three daughters, Deborah Perry, Valarie Renie Scott and Stephanie Freeman; son, Michael Freeman; three grandchildren, Danielle Freeman, Nigel McLean and Christopher Murphy; great-grandson, Joseph Walker; son-in-law, Akil Scott; aunt, Virginia Mason; and a host of other relatives and friends.
