Robert Rose, Jr.

Robert Rose Jr., “Robert Junior”, was born March 2, 1939, in Florence, South Carolina to the late Robert Rose Sr. and the late Wilhelmina Jackson Rose of Florence SC. Robert passed away at home on May 10, 2015. Robert was the second of five children. His siblings are Alberta Mitchell, Emma Jones, Mattie Jones and the late Levern Rose. Robert attended school in Timmonsville Public school system and later became employed as a mechanic, cook and bus driver. In addition, Robert farmed as a child and until he was an adult. Robert would proudly talk about his many trades with family and friends and how he believed in hard work and a strong work ethic. Robert was a strong support system for his mother and siblings until his mother passed away. Robert moved to Maryland and met Loretta Covington where they were united in love and in marriage. Family members say Robert didn’t seem fulfilled in life until he married Loretta. Loretta preceded him in death on September 10, 2000. Robert and Loretta had 5 children, Athena, William “Will”, Ronald “Ronnie”, Denise and Bryan. Robert supported his family by working as a certified heavy machinery operator and concrete cutter. He never missed more than one day of work each year, and he retired after 40 years from Strescon Industries. Robert took a lot of pride in completing what he started and set an example for being a hard worker, good supporter, loyal friend, loving husband and father. Robert loved fishing and often stopped to fish on his way home from work, during his 65 mile commute. He loved to joke and laugh and he had a love for people. Robert frequently sat outside on the porch speaking to all the neighbors and those that passed by. He was affectionately called Mr. Rob by the youth. Robert was an Oriole baseball fan and loved watching the games whether in person or on television, and even listening on the radio. Robert found most of his joy in visiting or spending time talking to his family. Robert will be missed by his five children, Athena, William, Ronald, Denise, Bryan and a niece, he helped raise, Leah; two son-in-laws, Steven Jones and George Franklin; two daughter in-laws, Donnella and Monica; thirteen grandchildren, Christine, Tia, William, Steven, Damia, Brandon, Tara, Anna, Ronald Jr., Jheni, William Jr., Bryan and Loretta, seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Alberta Mitchell, Emma Jones, Mattie Jones and one brother who preceded in death, Levern Rose. He is further survived by, two uncles, George A. Rose and Raymond Jackson and a brother-in-law, Ralph Covington and sister-in-law, Anita Pendelton, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends
