Richard Carlton Stevens Jr.

For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son He loves.” – Colossians 1:13 Richard Carlton Stevens, Jr., also known as Ricky, was born April 27, 1959, to Richard C. Stevens, Sr. and Lillian B. Stevens in Richmond, VA. He received his education through Richmond Public Schools, where he developed the strong work ethic and values that would guide him throughout his life. Though his path led him into the workforce early on, he remained deeply connected to the world of education — spending more than 8 years working as a custodian at various locations for Richmond Public Schools. He took great pride in his work. He brought a sense of order, safety, and kindness to the spaces he cared for. He was often the first to arrive and the last to leave, and though his job was behind the scenes, his presence was always felt. Faith was an anchor in Ricky’s life. As a Christian, he trusted deeply in Jehovah’s promises and would often said, “Prayer works!” It was this steady belief that carried him through life’s challenges with grace, patience, and peace. He didn’t need much to feel blessed — just his family, his faith, and the knowledge that he was doing what was right. Ricky enjoyed watching Westerns, listening to music, working with his hands, and spending time with family. His favorite time of the year was football season- win or lose he loved his Redskins! He lived simply, loved deeply, and was always quick with a joke or a word of encouragement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian B. and Richard C. Stevens; and his brother, George Linwood Stevens. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving companion of 26 years, Peggy Winston ; two daughters, Lakeisha Monte (Clifton) and Lamisha Richards (Jermaine); his stepdaughter, Letisha Martin (Linwood); his stepson, Marcus Ward; Grandchildren, Shaquille Ward, Adaija Marrow, Arianna Ward, Farrah Monte, Aaliyah Epps, Marcus Ward Jr., Ronald Epps Jr., Marley Ward; two sisters, Brenda West (James) and Gloria Stevens; a devoted friend, Pamela Ward; and a host of other relatives and friends.
