Rachel Virginia Johnson

Rachel Virginia Johnson, known as ‘Ginny” to her beloved Eyeball, Virginia to her friends, and “Ms. Virginia” to the many who loved her. Virginia was born on July 14, 1935 in Prince George, VA to the late Walter and Katherine Blowe. At an early age she was baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, later becoming a life-long member of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Rufus “Eyeball” Johnson. The couple relocated to Richmond, Virginia where they raised five children; Patricia, Rufus Jr., Craig, Carlton, and Charles (deceased). Ginny and Eyeball shared a beautiful love until God called Eyeball home in 2001. Virginia was an employee of the City of Richmond until retirement. She was a member of Eastern Star #79, OES PHA, and an active member of the Red Hat Society. An excellent cross stitcher, her works of art are proudly displayed in family residences. She was loving, loyal and compassionate with an outspoken and lively spirit; all of the characteristics that made her special. Virginia was a strong believer in family and was the glue that kept everyone together. She had a nurturing spirit and was a mother, sister, friend, and advocate to those in need. Her heart and home were open to all, bringing together a myriad of people who bonded and became an extension of her family. Her house became the focal point for family and friends to gather. You were always greeted with a smile. A random, friendly visit could easily turn into a party, and you never left her house hungry. The best part of it all was that you always felt welcomed and it was a place where life-time friendships were formed. This was the essence of Virginia. This was her legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Katherine Blowe, her beloved husband, Rufus “Eyeball” Johnson, son, Charles “Tanky” Johnson, and grandson Maurice Bailey. Left to cherish her precious memory is her devoted daughter Patricia, sons, Rufus Jr. (Debra), Craig, and Carlton (Phyllis), and her brothers James Blowe (Eugenia) and Michael Blowe (Angie). She leaves behind her 10 adoring grandchildren Darrick Burton, Kenetra Beaufort (Doug), Benton Johnson (Keiona), Shameka Washington (Kirk), Maya Johnson, Dartangnan Adams, Craig Collins (Jami), Breana Johnson, Akheem Johnson, and Craylon Johnson, and 19 great-grandchildren to continue the legacy. A host of relatives and friends, among them dedicated, Ike Taylor and Pearl Mickleberry. If she were here, she’d say, “Don’t cry for me for I’ve gone home to the Savior who loves and cares for me.”
