Phyllis Cryor Winborne

Phyllis Lillian Cryor Winborne entered this world on November 30, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland, the sixth of seven children born to Milton and Mary (Moore) Cryor. On January 14, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101, Phyllis peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm, surrounded by the love and presence of her children. To all who knew her, Phyllis was nothing short of extraordinary—a truly Special Lady whose grace, intellect, and spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. A Love Story for the Ages -In 1945, Phyllis married the love of her life, Leak Winborne, Jr. Their union blossomed into a partnership of nearly 64 years—one built on devotion, mutual respect, and unwavering commitment. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, discipline, music, and an unshakeable belief in the power of education. A Creative Spirit and Master Craftswoman - Phyllis was also a gifted singer who performed in public alongside her sister Loretta. She possessed extraordinary talent with her hands. Her penmanship was so elegant and precise that it resembled calligraphy, another reflection of her meticulous nature. Phyllis was an exceptional cook and a highly skilled seamstress who created everything from prom gowns and wedding dresses to coats, hats, leather goods, draperies, purses, and jewelry. Her creativity and craftsmanship enriched the lives of her family for decades. A Devoted Mother and Matriarch - Phyllis and Leak raised nine children in their West Baltimore house, nurturing them with love, structure, and high expectations. This had a significant and positive impact on her offspring: Kylis Pheal (Julia) Winborne, Brenda Lillian Winborne Neuerburg (Gary – deceased), Norberta Mary Winborne, Dr. Malverne Cryor (Vanessa) Winborne, Dr. Duvon Granville Winborne, Evon Leak Winborne, Lemmiel MiltonWinborne, Danielle Leak (Belinda) Winborne, Rochielle Phyllis Winborne-Moody (Carl – deceased). Phyllis is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring strength of her family tree. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leak Winborne, Jr., and by her daughter, Norberta Mary Winborne. Her siblings, Hazel Howard, Jessie Cryor, Dorothea Goolsby, Rev. Wallace Cryor, Rev. Elliot C. Cryor, and Loretta L. Tazewell, also preceded her in death. Phyllis Lillian Cryor Winborne lived a life defined by love, brilliance, service, creativity, and strength. She leaves behind a legacy that spans generations and a lifetime of memories that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. We would be remiss not to note that Phyllis Winborne had a wonderful sense of humor!
