Patrice Deborah Perkins

PATRICE DEBORAH PERKINS was born on September 4, 1960, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Archie Perkins and the late Ethel Mae Butler Perkins. Known as Debbie to many of her friends and Pudgy to her family, a nickname lovingly given to her by her mother, Patrice lived a true rag to riches story. From humble beginnings in Baltimore’s public housing projects, she rose through education, faith, determination, and hard work to build a successful life, a home in Howard County, and a lasting foundation for her family. She attended Baltimore City schools and graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame. She later earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and her master’s degree from the University of Baltimore. Her only son, Amond, proudly followed in her footsteps by attending UMBC, creating a special bond through their shared alma mater. Patrice believed deeply in the power of education and encouraged him to pursue continued achievement. Patrice dedicated more than 36 years to federal service. She served as a federal investigator with the National Security Agency, the Department of Defense, and ultimately the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security before retiring in 2020. She was known for her exceptional intelligence, integrity, determination, and willingness to speak her mind. A lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, Patrice faithfully attended Mass every Sunday until her health prevented her from doing so. Her faith remained an important source of strength throughout her life. She also had a passion for finance and investing. Patrice closely followed the stock market, particularly initial public offerings, and regularly watched Bloomberg. She believed investing was a way to create security, independence, and generational wealth. Through her conversations with Amond about education, investing, and financial planning, she inspired him to continue building upon the legacy she began. Patrice loved bringing people together, especially through the Christmas parties she hosted for family and friends. Her potato salad, made from a treasured recipe passed down from her mother, became a beloved family tradition and was always requested at family gatherings. She was also a devoted Baltimore Ravens fan As a single mother, Patrice raised Amond with unconditional love, discipline, and high expectations. Her personal motto was: “I must succeed. I will succeed. I cannot afford not to succeed.” Patrice warmly welcomed her daughter in law, Lena, and found tremendous joy in being “Gammy” to Amara, Olanna, and Amond Jr. She also leaves behind beloved cousins, extended family, many cherished friends, and her best friend, Kat, whom she had known since they were four years old. Patrice will be remembered as an exceptionally intelligent, bold, determined, faithful, and loving woman. Her legacy continues through the family she loved the values she instilled, and the generations she inspired.
