Norvell Wesley Pinkney

Norvell Wesley Pinkney, affectionately known as “Wesley or Wes” was born in Baltimore Maryland on December 21, 1953, to the late Addison and S. Elaine Pinkney. He unexpectedly departed this life on August 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Wesley attended Forest Park High School in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated in 1971.Always the center of attention and the life of the party, he was voted “best dressed” and "best dancer” by his peers and endorsed by all that met him. He continued his education at Baltimore City Community College, and then entered the work force where he was a staple at Standard Carpet, one of the most popular carpet companies in the city. From there he worked several other jobs and then he began full time employment at Dan’s Shoe Store. Mr. Danny, as he was affectionately called, was the face of the store, bringing it back from the brink of folding and, for nearly 30 years, turning it into a staple location in the community, serving generations of families in West Baltimore. Every day, through his good nature and infectious smile, he brought joy to countless families, ensuring that the people he served got the best prices, a great experience and most of all were treated with respect, regardless of their station in life. This was his gift beyond anything else…..he loved helping people. Coming up Wesley was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was to help a friend with a project, a brother that was in trouble, or something around the house that needed tending. He was always on the job. He was a leader and mentor to many and never met a person that he couldn’t reach. A common theme from many of the people that knew him best was that he was a major influence on their lives and that they wouldn’t be the men and women they are now if it weren’t for the blessings that he brought to their lives. It is no surprise that in the latter years of his life, he became a caregiver, taking on the responsibility of providing for his aging parents, ensuring that he daily living aspects of their lives were attended to and that they wanted for nothing until God called them home. He loved with his whole heart, and it showed in everything he did, and was felt by all he poured into. Wesley could brighten any day, lighten any mood, bring a smile to the saddest face, and inspire happiness in the darkest of moments. He was a charmer, a friend to all, a storyteller, a comedian, a lover of classic R&B, old shows, and just living life in general. He will be sorely missed. Wesley was greeted at the gates of heaven by his parents, Addison and S. Elaine Pinkney; brother Donald H. Pinkney; children Donald W. Pinkney and Kristen Pinkney; granddaughter Brianna Smith; sister-in-law Cozette Pinkney; nephew Ceontay Coit; and his life partner Patricia Gossett. He leaves behind to continue to light the way, his brother Addison Pinkney III; son Adam (Jamie) Pinkney; nephew Jan (Jill) Pinkney; nieces Donna Wesley and Melanie Pinkney and partner Benedict Richardson; grandchildren Autumn Pinkney, Khalil Pinkney, and Kayden Thompson; sister-in-law Renae Pinkney; Kim Pinkney; as well as a host of close family and friends, to include his furry boy, Tucker. He left us with so many great memories to hold onto, and for that we are forever grateful. Until we see you again, know that we love you Wesley and you will live forever in us all. Rest easy.
