THE OBITUARY OF NORMA COGER LOCKETT Norman Coger Lockett departed this life on November 11, 2023. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on October 23, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugertha F. Coger, and Norman L. Coger, and sister Yvonne C. Webster. Norma began her education at Baker Elementary School, Booker T Washington Junior High, and Benjamin A. Graves Junior High School. While in school she played the viola and took piano lessons from the renowned Mr. Charles Howard and participated in many recitals. Norma graduated from Armstrong High School in.1962 and Virginia Union University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She later received her Master of Education Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, specializing in Early Childhood Education in 1977. She began her teaching career in Caroline County in 1972, teaching second and third grades, at Dawn and Bowling Green Elementary School . After teaching in Caroline County for nineteen years, she·transferred, to the Richmond Public School System, She taught at Summer Hill and Swansboro Elementary Elementary School. Norma was honored to be asked to help start the new school, Miles Jerome Jones Elementary where she became the Title l Math Lead teacher. Norma has been an educator for over thirty years. She has received numerous awards and recognitions. Norma was a loving, caring, and kindhearted person. Her hobbies in her earlier days were bowling and cross-stitching. She had a passion for teaching and love for children so much that she would bring them home to spend nights and weekends with her. They would go to church with her and family outings. She loved spending time with her family and friends. To some, she is known as Norma but to most, she is known as Boopie. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was an active member of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the adult usher board, and co-director for Vacation Bible School and Christian Education. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, devoted husband, Lindsey Calvin Lockett; son, Bobby R. Highsmith Jr.; niece, Renee Taylor (Leo); great niece and nephew, Yvonne Webster and Joshua Campbell, who were the apples of her heart; mother-in-law, Anna Brown; caregiver, Fay Johnson; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
