Ms. Nettie Louise Chaney

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Nettie L. Chaney, a radiant soul whose joy touched everyone she met. Nettie Louise Chaney was born on June 24, 1959, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the cherished daughter of Thomas Chaney and Cassie Hughes. As the youngest of five siblings, she was truly the baby of the family, dearly loved, protected, and celebrated from the very beginning. Born with Down syndrome, Nettie faced life with a courage and light that defied every limitation placed before her. She was not defined by her disability; instead, she defined what it meant to live fully, love openly, and rejoice daily. Through every season of her life, Nettie thrived. She was a testament to resilience, grace, and God's perfect design. During her elementary and middle school years, Nettie attended the Baltimore City Public School System, where she began building the joyful spirit and social connections that would characterize her life. Even as a young girl, she brought warmth and brightness into her classrooms and to everyone she encountered. Nettie was lovingly and faithfully cared for by her devoted mother, Cassie, until her passing in 2021. The bond they shared was one of pure, unconditional love, a reflection of heavens own tenderness. After her mother's passing, Nettie continued to be surrounded by love, going to live with her brother George, who ensured she remained safe, supported, and cherished. For many years, Nettie attended the ARC of Baltimore day program, where she flourished socially until 2020. She was truly the life of the party. If you ever encountered Nettie, you were likely greeted with a warm hug, a sweet kiss, and an invitation to dance. And not just any dance,Nettie had signature moves. Whenever she was surrounded by family and friends, she would step into the spotlight to debut her latest routine, complete with rhythmic snaps and joyful hip shakes. Her dances were more than movement, they were ministry. They lifted spirits, broke tension, and reminded everyone that joy is a gift meant to be shared. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought changes that prevented her from returning to her day program, Nettie's health began to decline. Yet even in quieter seasons, her spirit remained joyful and loving. In 2025, Nettie was hospitalized and later required rehabilitation. Through it all, she continued to reflect the same light that had defined her entire life. On February 9, 2026, after experiencing severe medical complications, Nettie peacefully entered eternal rest. She has now joined her beloved mother, Cassie Hughes, and her sisters, Ann Jordan, Julia Taylor, and Rosetta "Liz" Jordan, in heaven. Nettie's life was a beautiful sermon without words. She taught patience without preaching, joy without conditions, and love without barriers. In her laughter, we heard heaven. In her. embrace, we felt God's warmth. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her devoted brother, George Chaney; her beloved Aunt, Cornelia Banks; nieces Elaine Mosby, Gevonne Cephas (Greg), and Tyler Chaney; nephews Waverly Jordan (Lucinda) and Ronald Jordan (Kimberly); and a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever carry her joyful spirit in their hearts. Though we grieve her absence, we rejoice knowing that Nettie has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Rest peacefully, beautiful Nettie. Your dance continues in heaven.
