Nellie Newell O'Bannon

NELLIE NEWELL O’BANNON a.k.a. (Noonie), daughter of the late Herman and Zadie O’Bannon, was born on July 31, 1946. God chose to send for one of his children on February 18, 2010.She was the youngest of four daughters, all of whom are deceased; the eldest being Charlene O’Bannon, followed by Althea Carolyn O’Bannon, Dorothy Lucille O’Bannon Johnson and lastly Nellie Newell O’Bannon.Nellie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and attended the Historical Frederick Douglas High School in 1964.Nellie was an avid member of Our Savior Lutheran Church located on 33rd Street and The Alameda, under the previous Pastors Payne and Winterstein. Nellie loved to hear the word of God and was baptized at an early age.Nellie worked as a deli clerk for Mr. Covington’s at that time locate on Pennsylvania Avenue. Then Nellie worked as a substitute teacher at Pimilico Junior High School during the seventies for several years with the Summer Corps Programs, for Baltimore City during 1979/1980. Nellie was as assistant Girl Scout Troop Leader at Arlington Elementary School #234 as lastly worked as a daycare provider out of her home for years for family members and working parents throughout the Park Heights Community.Nellie was affectionately called Noonie by family and friends and was known by her tow famous words: “Pretty Good!” “Noonie how was your day?” “Pretty good” “How was your food Noonie?” “Pretty Good;” and when she was being introduced, she would reply “How you do” and politely nod her head in a regal like fashion.Nellie’s calm demeanor and gentle spirit were among her greatest strengths. Nellie lent an ear to all of her friends and family and was also known for her phenomenal cooking.Nellie leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Natalie Anne O’Bannon Haskett and Rhonda Lynne O’Bannon Conley; two sons-in-law, Clarence Haskett and Sean Conley; four grandchildren, Cameron Haskett, Nathalia Haskett, Teal Johnson and Maximus Conley; nephew, Russell Griffin; great-nephew, Christian Turner; two nieces, Valerie Griffin and Dorothy (Mouse) O’Bannon; two great-nieces, Shaquana and Labree’ O’Bannon; great-great-niece, Avery Turner; childhood friend/best friend, Angela Scott; extended family, Kevin and Tangie Coleman and Doris Peters (cousins), Horace Robinson (eldest cousin).
