Nellie Jane Miller-Smith

Over the years While living with Cousin Kay, Nellie was asked “What would you like for us to say about you at you Homegoing Service?” She said – Write what you like “Mother Kay” you'll know what to say. I won't be there! I'll Be Gone up Yonder”. Nellie Jane Miller-Smith “Aunt Netta”, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday, March 26, 2013.She had her ticket in her hand, she has laid down her burdens shouldered up her cross. Nellie was born April 15, 1927 in Anson County, North Carolina to the late Gus Miller and Jannie Colston-Miller her Brothers and Sisters Chest Bennett, Harold Miller Charlie Bell Miller, Alvin Miller Roosevelt Miller, Augusta Miller, Pansy Ingram, Mary Lee Biles, Connie Parker and Henertter Huntley preceded her in death over the years. She was educated in Anson County School System in Wadesboro, North Carolina. In the 1950's Nellie moved from Wadesboro, N.C. To Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married Sam Smith. They raised one son, Corey Cary. Nellie was employed for many years at Bush Cleaners & Cox Cleaners as a presser. She was known in her neighborhood as “MS Nellie” and would open her home to anyone needing a place to stay. Nellie was a member of St. John Christian Community Church, joining under the leadership of Pastor Tommie L. Jenkins, Sr. nellie remained a faithful member under the current leadership of Pastor Tommie L. Jenkins, Jr. until her health prevented her from attending in FAITHFUL SERVANT. She was a member of the Senior Usher Board, the Carole Choir, the Mass Choir and Vocal Choir. Her favorite song was “I GOT GOOD NEWS.” During her short Stay at the Keswick Multi-Care, she always spoke fondly of her Church members, the choir, the usher board, and her pastors. She always told the staff she was going to church every Sunday. The staff would respond, “Alright Ms. Nellie we will have you ready.” Nellie loved to sing for the staff at the nursing home, especially the song, “I GOT GOOD NEWS.” She will be sorely missed. Nellie is survived by numerous family members, but just to name a few: Corey Scott (MD); (Caregiver) Cousin Kay Biles (“MOTHER KAY”) (MD) Mildred Huntley- Martin, Hattie Biles; Rev Dr. Harold Miller; sister-in-law Juanita Miller (NC); faithful friends, Margie & Tony Blake (MD); her cat Chavez Biles and her young prayer partners Maliyah & Makayla Biles (ages 8 & 10 ); Brenda Turner (NJ); Joanne Massey and Helen Biles (PA) SPECIAL THANKS TO; THE ENTIRE ST JOHN CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CHURCH; Rev Lillian Boyd, Ms. Linda, Ms. Eartha, Doris Frazier, Min. Dorothy Gray, Deacon Bunch who called Nellie “BROWN SUGAR”, Ethel Washington, and her favorite couple in the world Deacon Roland Ellison and Rev. Janet Ellison, for their undying service in making sure Nellie attended church EVERY Sunday
