REMEMBERING MELISSA On January 29, 2024, Melissa Corinne Carter peacefully entered eternal rest in Henrico County, Virginia. Melissa was born to the late James and Haze Carter. Melissa accepted Christ at an early age, joining St Mark Baptist Church and later joining St Paul's Baptist church which she loved dearly. Melissa attended Goochland County Public Schools and transferred in her 10th-grade year to Louisa County High School where she graduated. Melissa dedicated 31 years of service in public education between Henrico County and Richmond City Schools and 7 years with Richmond Residential Services. Melissa was a loving spirit with an infectious smile. Even during her toughest times, she. finds the strength to smile. Anyone who met her couldn't help but to love her. Melissa was very protective of her loved ones and cherished ALL her friends and her fur babies, Diamond, Socks, and Nippy. Melissa loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Whenever Melissa is around, you just know that there's going to be a good time. Melissa knew how to brighten a room and spread joy. She never missed a moment to talk trash to lighten the mood. Melissa was a die-hard 49ers fan and enjoyed attending their games as well as watching the games with friends and family. I'm sure she will be watching the Super Bowl from Heaven. Melissa developed a love for motorcycles through her brother Jason and eventually built a close relationship with the Nubian Kruzers. Melissa was a mom to many from fostering children and maintaining close relationships with her children's friends who lovingly referred to her as mom. Melissa was a fashionista who had a fetish for shoes, handbags, hair, and blinged-out jewelry. Any occasion for Melissa was an occasion to celebrate, never missing a moment to wear her tiara. Although her life seemed short, Melissa lived her life to the fullest. Melissa was preceded in death by her son Wayne Justin Carter and her brother Jason Tyrone Carter (Marva). She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted son Kyle Dwarne Carter, caring daughter, Shamira Ghee, devoted Goddaughter, Brancfy Kearse; loving bonus daughters: Dionedra, Tashara, and Tray'Shauna; devoted sister, Amanda Carter-Valencia; 5 aunts: Ruth Kenny (Wesley), Rachel Mattie (Henry), and Judy Snead (Charles), Uncles; Deceased Milton ( Evelyn), (Deceased) Rodney, Roger, Robert Curtis, Marion Jr, and George (Barbara) Carter; Two nieces: Clara Johnson and Tiffiny Davis; Four nephews: Christopher and Arthur Johnson III (Unique) and Zahir Carter, and Trevon Dabney; Four great nieces: London, Karter, Isabella, and Aliyah; one great nephew: Arthur IV, and a host of relatives ( loving and devoted cousin LaTanya Shelton) and friends, childhood best friends, Shaunda Kearse, Vivianne Glover, and Shelley Henley, and longtime.friends Bridget Washington, Terra Turner, Shelley Camp, and MLK School Ladies. I just wanted to let you know that I made it home. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long. Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new. I wish that you all could close your eyes and that you could see it too. Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand. God is taking care of me... I'm in the shelter of His hands. Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again. Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really must go for now...
