Melinda Delores Miller

Melinda Delores Jones Miller was born February 6, 1952 in Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Betty Jane Jackson Jones Tunon and Howard Lee Jones, Sr.Melinda was the second eldest of six children and was a perfect big sister. She lived her early childhood years in Harrisburg, Pa. During her childhood years she was active in the Salvation Army Sunbeams, girl guards, and their summer camp. In addition each Sunday she attended two different Sunday schools- the Salvation Army Sunday school and the Methodist Church Sunday school. They contributed to her religious orientation and high values.She attended Glenwood Elementary School in Harrisburg, School #91 in Baltimore for junior high school, Edmondson Senior High School, Cortez Peters Business School, Harrisburg Area Community College and Coppin State College in Baltimore.She had a short marriage to James Miller. She reared two beloved sons, Timothy and Aaron Jones, who produced seven beloved grandchildren, Shaniea, Atara, Tyrell, Timmeka, Aaron Jr., Brianca and Ariana.She and Winston devoted much energy and time to giving loving care, direction and constructive guidance to all the grandchildren.She was on hemodialysis for eighteen years. She baked, cooked, canned, made delicious pies, cakes, jellies, canned food from Winston’s vegetable garden and tended her lovely flower garden.She passed seventeen happy, active, productive years with a God sent angel, Winston L. Bower, whom she called “Lovey Darling.” Lovey Darling gave her attentive, loving care all those years and stayed by her bedside night and day during her painful, debilitating, devastating short bout with cancer. Melinda fought a good, courageous fight with cancer got closer to God and relied on the blood of Jesus.She departed this life at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2003. She leaves to mourn: her mother, Betty Tunon; her father, Howard Jones Sr.; her stepmother, Dorothy Jones; her mother-in-law, Hilda Bower, and her beloved Winston or Lovey Darling; two brothers, Howard and Bronson Jones; two sisters, Kathleen and Raenell Jones; four stepchildren, Ella Sommerville, Winston Bower II, Donald Bower and Jill Bahti; her seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
