Mary Lou Wilder

MARYLOU WILDER, a child of God, was born on Tuesday, January 2, 1945. She was the fourth child born to the late Clover Lee Wilder and Corine (Burgess) in Florence, South Carolina. God saw fit to summons her home on Sunday, September 9, 2018, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Mary Frances Harry, Albert Burgess, Jr. and Eugene Burgess, Sr. and a brother in-law, Nathanial Harry and a best friend who was like a sister, Gloria Parks Vanyhe. Mary accepted Christ at an early age at Jordan Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina. In 1967 Mary joined Saint Paul Community Baptist Church. There she grew in Christ. Mary was a member of the gospel choir and a senior usher, where she remained until her health failed. Mary received her education in Florence, South Carolina. Mary was married to John T. Addison and John Q. was embraced into this union. Mary was a fantastic mother to her son John Quintell Addison. Mary worshipped the ground Quintell walked on. He was her life. Mary loved flowers, buying and planting them in her yard. Her flowers missed her so much that they bloomed to the fullest for her this year; she loved playing cards with her friends, Kevin, Frankie and Rudy, talking language that only they could relate. She loved listening to gospel music, especially Lee Williams singing “Jesus Will Fix It.” She also liked the oldies but goodies music. She loved cooking and having parties especially for John when it was his birthday; each year saying she was not having another party and as time got closer she was preparing for the party, getting everybody involved. She finally stopped because of health. She spoke highly of her neighbor Franklin Hammond, who was like a brother to her. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: son, John Q. Addison; ex-husband and friend, John T. Addison; two nieces, Maryann Dewitt of Baltimore, MD and Wanda Washington of Lake City, SC; four nephews, Eugene Burgess, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Dennis Burgess (Elizabeth), Carlester and Tyrone Harry of Baltimore, MD; Draquan Gamble was just like her own son; a friend that would walk on water if she could, trudge through snow, ice and rain, Jacquelin Crudup; two good neighbors and friends, Sharon Hamilton and Beverly Brown; and a host of cousins, family and friends. We would like to give a special thank you to the Gilcrest family at 828 N. Eutaw Street. Mary got everybody’s attention with her kindness. She was always testing the staff, trying to find a wife for her son. She loved to sing and the staff sang with her. Mary was treated with dignity, respect and love. Thank you.
