Mary Freeman

Mrs. Mary Mary E. Holly and James Freeman, daughter of the late Mar E. Holly and James A. Holly, was blessed with eternal life in the morning of Monday December 30th 2024. Mary's born in St Mary's County, Maryland and raised in Baltimore City, was the youngest child of Mary and James. She had an older brother, Lewis Albert: who preceded her in death as a young child. Mary devotion to the Catholic Faith, was developed at a young age. She attended St. Peter Claver Catholic Elementary School and completed her high school education at St Frances Academy. Being a naturally nurtururing person, Mary pursued a career in the nursing profession. She received certification in Geriatric Studies from Catonville Community College, and also received specialized training as a Certified Nursing Assistant from University of Maryland Medical Center. In 1955 she continued her career at the very place she received her specialized training UMMC. During the summer of 1957 at a mutual friends wedding, Mary met and fell in love with a young man named William T. Freeman Jr. after a brief courtship, the two wed on September 20, 1958 . They were married for 47 years until Williams passing in 2006. From this union, they had three children Milo A Freeman, Kina T Freeman and Wendy T Freeman. Mary continued her employment with UMMC for 12 years. In 1969, she took a hiatus from nursing to focus on her growing family. That December, she gave birth to her youngest child. In 1980, Mary resumed her career and was employed at the former Jewish Convalescent Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home. She was a dedicated employee, until her retirement in 1995. In her leisure, Mary had a love of gardening. She never met a plant she didn't like, especially roses. She adored everything about a rose. When her hands weren't working the , the earth, they were creating magic in the kitchen. Potato salad anyone? Roast beef, baked chicken, soups and stew, and cream cheese pound cake: just to name a few. But the most cherished of all, was the Christmas Eve Tradition. After attending midnight mass, Mary would prepare a late night snack of smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, and fried cabbage. After such a decadent meal, the family was allowed to open one gift. The rest not until sunrise. Sunrise service was a favorite of Mary's. The 8:00am service was a must for Mary and her daughter: along with Sunday school for the youngest. Her two eldest received their grade school and religious education at the former St Ambrose and All Saints schools. Mary loved St Ambrose Church and its community. Upon retirement, she finally had time to become a more active member of the church. She was an usher a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Conference, heath ministry and a collection counter, On Friday February 13th,2009 Mary received a Mother Large Award" for services 6 years after her mother received the same honor, Mary service extended to her neighborhood community as well. She was an active member of the Park Lane Neighborhood community as well. She was an active member of the Park Lane Neighborhood Association and was Sergeant of Arms.
