Marjorie Ann Marie Doughty

MARJORIE ANN MARIE DOUGHTY, daughter of the late Major Spriggs and Bertha Spriggs, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 7, 1935. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, and she joined the marching band as a Majorette. She married her childhood love in 1952, together they had eight daughters and raised seven, Kimberly passed away at the age of 4 months old in 1962. She also worked various jobs, her favorite was being a homemaker. During her early years Mom attended Ebenezer Baptist Church and served on the Willing Workers Ministry, and later in life she joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church and faithfully served on the Usher Board. Mommy was always caring, helping and giving to others even if it was her last. Mommy had a great love for All of her family. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing BINGO, and she looked forward to playing Santa every Christmas, the joy on the children’s faces meant everything to her. She also enjoyed traveling. When the whistle blew Margie was in the back seat with her ice-cold water, ready to go. With her jovial spirit, wit and laughter, you could always count on her to be the life of the party, especially when she would hear the song “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. She was full of fun and laughter, oh yeah, that special dance that only mommy could do. She valued and demonstrated strong family principles of love and unity. “Mommy,” “Aunt Margie,” “Grandma,” as she was affectionately known, was our cherished Matriarch who always played an essential role in the glue that holds us together as a family. She had a heart of compassion– doing things in ways that no one felt left out. She always welcomed you into her space with grace, warmth and acceptance. Mommy had an immense love for children and spent years babysitting, and she loved your child as her own. Mom loved her family, but she had a greater love for her God. Seeing how she expressed her love for HIM through her praise and how she leaned on him showed her strong Faith and Trust in the “Master” as she would call him. We can hear mommy saying to her loving family, Keep the Faith, Don’t Worry “God Got ME and God Got You”! Marjorie cherished her family and leaves to mourn, her husband, Prentiss L. Doughty: six daughters, Carolyn, Mildred (Wayne), Victoria (Larry), Veronica (Maurice), Sabrina (Anthony), Bridgette (Frederick), (two daughters preceded her in death, Elva and Kimberly); seventeen grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and thirty-five great-great-grandchildren; her sister Estelle (six siblings preceded her in death, William, Grace, Milton, Eugene, Ethel and Catherine); sister-in-law, Printess Ann; four god-children, Michael, Gina, Artisha and Sonja; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
