Marie E. Moyd

Marie Eleanor (Whiting) Moyd was born on July 26, 1934, in Gloucester County, Virginia. On Monday, March 14, 2005, this butterfly spread her wings and took flight to her heavenly home. She moved to Baltimore at an early age and was enrolled in the Baltimore City Public Schools. Marie graduated from Dunbar Senior High School and completed her Early Childhood and Special Education degrees at Coppin State College. She also earned her Masters Equivalent in Special Education. After graduating from Coppin, Marie began a teaching career which included assignments at Victory Elementary School (1973-1987) and the Windsor Hills Elementary School. In 1998, she retired after 27 years of service in the Baltimore City Public School System. On May 10, 1955, Marie married her singing partner, Olin P. Moyd. They were married for more than 49 years and enjoyed traveling the world together. They were blessed to visit Africa, Rome, the Holy Land, Egypt, Barbados, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and several other countries. Together they also led the Mt. Lebanon Family for more than 40 years. As the "Leading Lady", Marie was active in many church ministries. Like a butterfly with wings, these ministries flourished and were blessed by her warm smile and motherly wisdom. Her other religious involvements included serving as President of the Interdenominational Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows, President of the Maryland Association of MWMW, and life member of the Women's Auxiliary of the United Baptist Missionary Convention of Maryland, Inc. She proudly leaves to continue her legacy: her loving husband, Olin; five daughters (four sons-in-law), Marlene (William), Angie (Gary), Olinda (John), Olivia (Ronald), and Anita; her siblings, Beverly Reddick, Irene Williams, Lillian Wright, Katherine (Patty) Allen, Darlene Whiting, Joseph, James and Leroy Whiting; a devoted stepmother, Azeal Whiting; three brothers-in-law, Warren and George Moyd and Elijah J. Scott; a sister-in-law, Katherine (Tennie) Scott; nine grandchildren; one uncle, Charles Pollard; long-time friends, Wilma Ann Carter Moore and Naomi Lambert; and many other relatives and friends. Marie Eleanor Moyd will truly be missed by all those who loved her.
