Mamie Lois Hall Cephas

Legacy of Life Mamie Lois Hall Cephas departed this life on Friday October 18, 2024. A native of Florence South Carolina, Mamie was born on October 2, 1926, the youngest of five children to the Ralph Hall Sr. and Queenie Esther Harley Hall. After her father learned of a better job opportunity to become gainfully employed at the Seaboard Railroad Company in Richmond Virginia. The family packed up and moved to Richmond. He was hired by Seaboard Railroad Company and the young family made Jackson Ward their new home. She was enrolled in the Van der Vyver Private School for her early education and later graduated from Armstrong High School in 1944. She married the love of her life, James Edward Cephas, fondly called “Bud” on July 9, 1949. Their union blessed Mamie and James with two precious daughters Marilyn and Rosilind. James was a devoted father who provided very well for his family. This afforded Mamie to nurture, guide and support her children as a stay-at-home-mother! Mamie spent her working years at Thalheimer’s and Miller and Rhoades as a merchandiser. She provided a warm smile and friendly service. Mamie loved her work because it was detailed-oriented. She dedicated 25 years and retired from Miller and Rhoades in 1973. Most of her life Mamie attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. For the last eight years she attended our family church, Divine World Changers International Ministries under the leadership of her great nephew Pastor Dr. Derwin Hickman Sr. and Co-Pastor Franswalla Hickman. She cherished her time with the Pastor, his family and the church family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Cephas; sisters, Edna Vaughan and Virginia Hickman; and brothers Ralph Hall Jr. and James Hall Sr. Mamie leaves to cherish her memory, a family that loved her, was devoted to her and adored her: two daughters, Marilyn Cooke (George) and Rosilind Cephas; a grandson, Quincey Roberts (Doris); one great grandson, Ryan Roberts; niece, Linda Pierson (Anthony); other nieces and nephews; great nephew, Pastor Dr. Derwin Hickman Sr. (Co-Pastor Franswalla); great-great nephews, great-great niece, and one precious baby boy great-great-great nephew.
