Louise Hargrove Boyd

Louise Hargrove Boyd, age 84 received her wings on December 8, 2017 and peacefully moved on to her heavenly home. She was born in Vance County, North Carolina on April 1, 1933, the second of thirteen children born to the late James Thomas Sr. and Georgiana Bowman Hargrove. She attended Vance County Public Schools and was baptized and joined Oak Level United Church of Christ at an early age. She developed a love and a skill for cooking and baking at a very young age that stayed with her throughout her life. Cakes and pies were her specialty. Louise married the love of her life Alvin Lewis "Tank" Boyd on November 17, 1952. They moved to Richmond, Virginia with their two oldest sons a few years after their marriage where they worked and grew their family with two more sons. They joined Cedar Street Baptist Church where their sons were baptized. Louise worked in the building and equipment department at Federal Reserve Bank, retiring in 1994. Louise and Tank moved into their home over fifty years ago where Louise became the mother of the block. She cooked and welcomed her children's friends at her table. She worked full time at night and still babysat many babies and children of relatives, friends and neighbors. Louise loved gospel music, cooking, baking, bingo, beautiful clothes and shopping but her first love was her family. Taking care of her family and making them happy was always a priority. She could always be counted on to attend reunions, weddings, funerals and events with family and friends. She was always the person who brought the delicious desserts to potlucks and gatherings. She was a happy person who prayed and loved the Lord. Louise was preceded in death in addition to her parents by two sisters, Dorothy Bullock (Warren), Hazel Jones (Eddie), two brothers, Don (Linda) and Noel Hargrove; mother-in-law, Verlena Lassister and brother-in-law, Harold Boyd. She is survived by her loving devoted husband of 65 years, Alvin L. Boyd, Sr.; sons, Johnny (Minnie), Eugene (Clara), Alvin L. Jr. (Carolyn) and Jeffrey (Shemakiah Jennings) Boyd; grandchildren, Jerald (Bea), Alicia, Danica, and Unique Boyd, Ashley Taylor and Jeremiah Jennings; six great-grandchildren, Riana, Destiny, Aliah, Elijah, Jayden and Myla; a devoted sister and caregiver, Jacqueline H. Lundy; brothers, James T. Sr. (Jessie) Odell, Roy, Lenioda (Elizabeth) and Michael Hargrove; sisters-in-law, Maria Hargrove, devoted friend/sister-in-law and caregiver, Arla "Cookye" Hargrove, Irene Mason, Mary Boyd, Mary (Ben) and devoted, Dorothy Streat; brother-in-law, Russell Boyd; devoted niece and caregiver, Cynthia Plummer; and a host of relatives and friends.
