Lorraine Adell Bowman

Our mother, Lorraine A. Bowman peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning June 17, 2017. She was born October 18, 1932 and was the youngest of three children born to Manley (Grand Daddy) and Novella (Big Mama) Christian. She was preceded n death by her parents, one sibling and the love of her life, our dad "Jimmie" Bowman who passed on April 8, 2017. She accepted God as her savior at an early age and was baptized at Mt Calvary Baptist Church in New Kent, Virginia. Her faith in God emulated from her mother, who was a faithful member and Deaconess of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Mama graduated from New Kent High School and soon afterward married "Jimmie" on January 15, 1949. After marrying Daddy and moving to Charles City she would alternate going to Mt. Calvary and Elam Baptist Church. Later she submitted her letter of withdrawal from Mt Calvary to become a member of Elam, joining the Willing Workers church group and later serving as a faithful Deaconess of the church alongside her husband who was a Deacon. She attended church faithfully until both she and daddy became ill. She did not work in her early years of marriage but stayed home to be a loving dedicated mother and wife. After we were older she worked a few years as a home keeper and then for Miller & Rhoads department store. She loved working at Miller & Rhoads because she loved clothes and they gave her an employee discount on all of her purchases. Daddy did not reap very much benefit from her working because of her love for clothes. She would tell him that her contribution from working was that he did not have to buy most of her clothes. Occasionally she would buy us something. She truly had a deep love for life, her parent/sister, husband, three kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. She also loved flowers, watching tennis on TV and cooking fresh veggies from the garden. Just last summer at age 84 she helped pick green beans and then canned them along with tomatoes and pickled beets so that she could have vegetables in the winter that were raised in a garden in her back yard. Mama leaves to cherish fond and loving memories; three children, Jackie A. Sharpe, Gary L. Bowman (Sharon) and Larry E. Bowman, all residing in Charles City; four grandchildren, Stacy Sutton (Darryl), Christina Peterson, Garon James Bowman (Alicha) and Jason Sharpe; four great-grandchildren, Alexis & Darius Sutton, Austin Peterson and Hayden James Bowman. She also leaves behind a loving sister, Lucille Brandon, a devoted brother-in-law (J.D.) and James "Danny" Brandon III, her only blood nephew, along with a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mama, we were so fortunate to have you as a mother, friend and neighbor. We have been so blessed to have had you and daddy around for so many years and we thank God for everyday that we spent with you but to us it still wasn't long enough. Mama today we celebrate your home going and just knowing that you have no more pain or suffering and that you are in the hands of our Lord and Savior makes this day a little more tolerable. We love you and we will miss you and we know you are happy again because you are in Heaven with God and Daddy.
