Lillian L. Lee

LILLIAN LUJANE HOWARD, was born on October 18, 1927 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland the last of 13 children of Jannie and Samuel Howard. Her family moved to Baltimore City early in her life, where she received her education. As an adult, she perfected her skills in sewing at Frederick Douglas High School. She was raised in the Baptist Church but jointed the Nation of Islam in 1956. She was married to the late Joseph Leroy Lee and they had 3 children; Robert Leroy, the late Ronald Anthony, and Patricia Elizabeth. As a youngster, she worked for a dentist delivering false teeth. She told us that when she could not locate a customer, she would throw the teeth in the sewer. As an adult, she worked as a waitress at Kresge Drug Store, also at Haas Tailoring Company as an excellent seamstress. When her daughter Patricia started school, Lillian became a stay at home mom and dedicated her life to raising her children and then her grandchildren. As a senior, she worked for the Department of Aging and she worked the polls during both of President Obama’s elections. Lillian (affectionately known as Granny), was well known as a great cook (she learned from her mother). He home was the setting of many family and friendship gatherings where her delectable treats were enjoyed and devoured by her sons and grandsons. Lillian was a strong woman who persevered some great obstacles, especially during her lengthy illness. Despite her three times a week doctor visits, she remained determined to continue to do the things she loved and enjoyed. She never gave up. She enjoyed playing cards and scrabble, bowling, day trips, Lifetime movies and recently became a fan of Tyler Perry’s “The have and the Have Nots”. Lillian’s memory will be cherished by her two children; Robert and Patricia, sister-in-law, Dorothy, daughter-in-law, Rene, grandsons; Robert Jr., Ronald Jr., Kenard, Lenard, Ansar, Tariq, great grandchildren; Rodney, Khalil, Kenard Jr., Hana, Imani, Lanarah, Laila, Aalujah, Linayah, Amir, Isaiah and Zora Lynn; nieces and nephews, very longtime friends Brother Elliott and sister Velma, and a host of other relatives and friends.
