Lewis Edward Black Jr.

Lewis Edward “Jerry” Black Jr. was born on April 30, 1963, to Lewis Edward Black Sr., known to many as “Ed,” and Mary Elaine Black, lovingly called “Elaine.” Jerry was called home to rest on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and memories of a life well lived. Jerry was raised with the values of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family, instilled by his parents. He carried those lessons throughout his life, touching many with his steady presence, warm spirit, and deep love for those closest to him. Jerry received his education through Charles City Public Schools. Gifted with many talents, he had the ability to fix, build, or figure out just about anything. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, using those skills in construction, plumbing, firefighting, towing, and various handyman trades. He was also widely known as a skilled mechanic who could work on just about anything. Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—taking out the boat, fishing, bowling, racecar driving, playing poker, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Along with his many hobbies, Jerry was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Edward Black Sr.; his mother, Mary Elaine Black; his brother, Lewis Burrel; and his nephew, Kenneth “Boobie” Black. Jerry’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his five children, to whom he devoted much of his time, energy, and love. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Travis Black, Shernice Williams, “Rick” Lewis Edward Black III (Melissa), Chiquita Tonge (Maurice), and Mary Morris (Climothy Jr.). He is also survived by his devoted companion of 11 years, Ollie Hunter; his fourteen grandchildren: Olivia, Jadden, Emanuel, Serenity, Robert Jr., Rozeé, Chance, Zoë, Blake, Briyasol, Khaleesi, Climothy III, Tye, and Autumn; and many loving family members, including his devoted uncle, friend, and brother Kenneth Black (Cherri); aunts Irene Harris (Elmer), Ann Williams (Randolph), and Helen Braxton (William); and his sisters Peggy, Nita, and Penny.
