Kia Diane Davis

Kia Diane Davis was born on March 28, 1974, to James and Rita Davis, and our beloved Kia passed away from this life on March 28, 2026, in a fire at her home in Baltimore, Maryland. Early on, it was clear that two things would remain true throughout her life. She would go even if she had to go alone, and she was going to create beauty wherever she landed. A graduate of Carver Vocational-Technical High School's Class of 1992, Kia remained an active participant in class activities, cherishing the bonds she formed during those formative years. Before she even graduated, she and her sister Kim opened their own salon, Smooth Operators, and that was only the beginning of a long life of many talents and discovery. She pursued her passion in cosmetology, dedicating over 15 years as a talented hairstylist and nail artist. Her clients not only admired the beautiful designs she crafted but also cherished her empathetic listening and counseling skills, which transformed her chair into a sanctuary of trust and friendship. Later, she volunteered at Garrison Middle School where she established a hair salon and provided complimentary hair services to the students. Extending her artistry beyond the salon, Kia spent time honing her skills, drawing, coloring, or painting, and creating works of art. She loved bringing her imagination to life with her hands, painting on canvas, custom designing wine glasses, or fingernails. Bold, creative, funny, and discerning, Kia never could go along just to get along. She was spiritually astute. She would study the Bible as a little girl and be asked to explain a passage, and when some of her peers were just learning to sound out the words, she would be able to discern and interpret what she had just read, and the study circle would sit in amazement. Kia was always inquisitive and demanded real answers. Long before Google and Wikipedia, she would fact-check your answer. An avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Kia embraced life with enthusiasm, whether she was cooking, enjoying the thrill of the casino, or finding peace in the water, where she could spend an entire day swimming with delight. She never met a karaoke mic she did not love, was a true Ravens fan, and enjoyed vacationing in Jamaica. Kia's heart belonged to her family. One of the sweetest bonds in her life was the one she shared with her father, James Davis, who preceded her in death. He was her homeboy, and they would ride around the city at night listening to music. Her son, Brandon, and granddaughter, Brooklyn, were the center of her universe. She effortlessly wove their stories and achievements into every conversation. kia left lasting impressions on people, asking a question that made you stop and think. She could make you laugh while you were hurting. She could be playful, sharp, caring, and intense, sometimes all in the same breath. She never missed a chance to connect with family and friends, and she carried a genuine concern for people. She was a caregiver by nature, including in her devotion to her grandmother. Her brother's keeper spirit made her someone who paid attention, checked in, and wanted people to make it through whatever they were facing. She would often refer to things as a "Full Circle Moment." How profound is it that her final moment would be a full-circle one, as she slipped away from us on the morning of her birthday, defining her life as a Full-Circle Moment. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and spoken of often. Glory to God in the highest for this beautiful soul. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Brandon Davis; her treasured granddaughter, Brooklyn Davis; her mother, Rita Pressley, (Tommie); her sister, Kim Davis; her nephew, Myles Hegie all of Florence, South Carolina; her grandmothers, Una Kathleen Smith (Lemuel) and Fannie Davis, both of Baltimore, Marvland; bonus sister, Ava Morgan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, classmates, clients, and loved ones whose lives are better because she was in them.
