Joseph A. Hubbard

JOSEPH “JOE” ALLEN HUBBARD was born on December 6, 1927, in Halifax County, Nathalie, VA, to the late Edward Lee Hubbard and Mary Ellen Price Hubbard. He fought a good fight until he departed this life on January 23, 2026, at 1:25 a.m. in the Hospice Unit at Harbor Hospital, and went home to be with the Lord. On May 23, 1959, Joseph married the love of his life, Mildred, and they celebrated 66 wonderful years together. They were blessed through this union with a wonderful son, Jeffrey Hubbard. He was known as Joe by his family, friends, and neighbors. He was kind and generous and gladly shared his possessions with others. Joe was baptized at a very young age and became a member of, and attended, Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie, VA, until moving to Baltimore, MD, to live with family. At a very young age, Joe became a farm boy, working with his father and siblings. He was a fast learner and could do almost anything with his hands through recognition and observation. Joe learned to drive at a young age and continued to drive until his health began to fail. Joe worked for the Lawrence Construction Company for 35 years and had a very special relationship with his employer. As a senior employee, Lawrence placed him in charge of ensuring work was completed when he was out of the office. Joe trained many new employees, and Lawrence did not want him to retire. After retirement, Joe raised a vegetable garden and took care of household tasks such as electrical work, plumbing, and car repairs until his health declined. He enjoyed watching local and world news, especially CNN, and faithfully watched the Jimmy Swaggart broadcast on Sundays. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially on Homecoming Day, held every first Sunday in August, when he was able to attend before his health began to fail. He had a special love for his three grandchildren, who brought him great joy. Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie May Hubbard and Nancy Cornelia Hubbard Snowden; four brothers, James Richard Hubbard, George Edward Hubbard, Willie Carroll Hubbard Sr., and Benjamin Hartwell Hubbard; and three nephews, Jordan Hubbard, Jerry Hubbard and James Snowden. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mildred; his loving son, Jeffrey Hubbard; three beloved granddaughters, Kayla, Jaleyah and Brinley Hubbard; one brother, John Lee Hubbard of Nathalie, VA; two sisters-in-law, Jerlean Hubbard of Nathalie, VA, and Gracie (James W.) Boyd of Nathalie, VA; five nieces, Laura Richardson, Barbara (Eric) Burrell, Ellen Womack, Jackie Wilkes (James) and Elizabeth Pannell (Herbert); three nephews, Charles (“Bra”) Hubbard, Willie Carroll Hubbard Jr. (“Skeeter”), and Frank “Buck” Hubbard (Rose); and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
