JACQUELINE (“JAKI”) SHARMANE NELSON was born on January 16,1954 to Geneva Russell and the late Bobby McGee in Baltimore, Maryland. She was one of seven children (Bernice, the late Tyrone, Janice, the late Mark, Lisa, Linda). Jaki departed this life unexpectedly on Saturday, July 2, 2022, and is now resting in heaven with the Lord. Jaki accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior many years ago and loved to talk about the goodness of the Lord. She attended Greater Grace World Outreach and in previous years was a long-time member of United Baptist Church where she and her beloved daughter, Shawnte were greeters. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, where she attended 101 Henderson, Clifton Park and Dunbar High Schools. Jaki had a one of kind spirit and personality. She was the most thoughtful and giving person anyone could know. She had a knack for remembering dates and would always call to wish you a “Happy Birthday or Anniversary.” Jaki took joy in sending greeting cards for any and sometimes no occasion…. just a thinking of you card. She also enjoyed talking on the phone. The conversations were usually lengthy, so you would have to set aside 2-3 hours. She loved to entertain and host various holiday/birthday celebrations with family and friends. Jaki was the life of the party…making sure you got plenty to eat and left with a covered plate in a Ziploc bag and a cold drink wrapped in Bounty paper towel. Jacki was a devoted mother to her special needs daughter, Shawnte. She dedicated her life to caring for her and making sure that Shawnte was loved and had everything she needed. She loved people and would start a conversation with strangers as if she had been knowing them for years. Jaki had a heart of gold and would give whatever she had. Jaki loved writing poems and singing along to her favorite gospel songs and R&B classics. With some vocal training she could have been a really good singer. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Taking them out to eat at her favorite restaurant, Golden Corral. Jaki also had a close relationship with her neighbors. They often looked out for one another. Jaki leaves behind to cherish her memory and legacy: daughter, Denise “Shawnte” Brockington; son, Andre Raysor; grandchildren, Dreona Raysor, Laniya Raysor, Taishon Brockington, Zion Brockington, Keniyha Brockington, Kenneth Brockington Jr.; mother, Geneva Russell; four sisters, Bernice Washington, Janice Bethea, Lisa Chester (husband, Leroy), Linda Russell; one aunt, Rosie Johnson; several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins; three special cousins, Michelle Johnson, Sheila Brady and LaKia Brady; two best friends, Diane and Kim; and a host of other relatives and friends.
