Jacqueline Thompson Gilliam

On July 30, 2011, our beloved Jacqueline Audrey Thompson Gilliam, the eldest daughter of the late William H. and Phillis A. Thompson departed this earthly life bound for her heavenly home. Jackie, as all affectionately called her, was born December 9, 1948. Jackie grew-up in the Washington Park Community; where, at an early age, she made the most important decision of her life. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at St. John Baptist Church. Jackie was an active member of St. John Baptist Church’s Sunday School and choir, as instilled by her parents and paternal grandparents Deacon William E. and Deaconess Edna Thompson. She was educated in the Richmond Public Schools System, and graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1966. Jackie’s employment career included Hill’s Directory, Travelers Insurance Company, Sears where she was a department head and model, and Best Products where she was an auditor of regional stores. Jackie’s most recent occupation was homemaker. Jackie united in holy matrimony on June 25, 1966 to Clarence E. Gilliam. Jackie and Clarence’s marriage of forty-five years had an important ingredient, unity. Their unity was not only with each other, but they shared a special unity with the Lord. Jackie’s marriage was blessed with two children, Traci and Eric. Jackie enjoyed reading and you could see her love of people, family, friends, laughter, fun, and especially the Lord. Previously, she was a member of the Metro Richmond Prayer Crusade. To the very end, Jackie enjoyed family cookouts, games and making others laugh, including the hospital and hospice personnel. Jackie was active in her church’s Sunday School, Choir, Prayer Ministry, Bible Study, Food Bank Ministry, Vacation Bible School, and volunteered whenever and wherever needed, until prevented by her failing health. Jacqueline Thompson Gilliam is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Deacon Clarence E. Gilliam; daughter, Traci E. Gilliam; son, C. Eric Gilliam (Catherine); six grandchildren, Shawn D. Gilliam (Taiwan), Shaneka D. Gilliam, Jacquelin S. Gilliam, Tranardia D. Becton, Kiera S. Gilliam and Maya G. Gilliam; five great-grandchildren, Jaylen Jones, Keynajah Gilliam, Taisanique Gilliam, Taiserion Gilliam and Te’Azyah Jackson; sister, Carolyn Thompson Winn; aunts, Edna Saunders, Alma Thomas, Joyce Rainey and Geraldine Richardson; uncles, Archie Thompson and Roy Pollard, step-grandmother, Martha Pollard; sister-in-law, Inez Gordon (George); brothers-in-law James L. Gilliam (Gail) and Paul Gilliam, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
