Hawthorne Carpenter

HAWTHORNE CARPENTER, son of the late Willie and Estell Carpenter, was born October 22, 1931, in Greensville Co., Virginia. On January 3, 2006, Hawthorne gained his independence and entered a place where the soul is safe and free to live with God through eternity, after a lengthy illness. He received his education in the Public Schools of Greensville Co. Virginia. Hawthorne found the Lord at an early age and continued to serve him. Hawthorne married the former late Gladys Squire at an early age, and to this union five children were born, Linda, Hawthorne Jr., Curtis, Estelle, Doreen, Stepchildren; Norene, Bee Esther, and John Henry that (preceded in death). After his marriage Hawthorne moved to Baltimore, and was employed at The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company from which he subsequently retired. He loved the outdoors and when he wanted to get away from it all he always went fishing; that was his favorite pastime, and if you could relate to the way he felt about fishing and boating why! you were welcome to come along and join in on the fun enjoying yourself on the boat as he cruised out to sea. That made him feel good, and anyone in the family was welcome to join him in the serenity. And that is what nephews Clinton and Larry did a lot with him until he became ill. He enjoyed life to the fullest and once you met him he was always your friend. Hawthorne met and married Sandra Little in June of 2000. She was more than a loving and devoted wife but a friend as well why Sandra was out cruising with Hawthorne too on those fishing trips and what ever he liked to do she was there with him even in the hour when the Lord took him by the hand. She loved him dearly but God loved him best. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Sandra; three daughters, Linda, Estelle and Doreen; three sons, Hawthorne, Jr., Curtis and Kevin; three stepchildren, Robert, Cassandra (preceded in death); three brothers, Willie Jr., Earl and Curly Carpenter; his devoted niece, Sybil "Judy" Adams and her husband, Walter; sister-in-law, Hazel; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and "ToTo" his heart; a host of nieces and nephews, especially of his brother, Leroy who preceded him in death, who had thirteen children; a host of devoted lifelong friends and other relatives.
