Grace Louise Taylor

Gracie Louise Mabrey Taylor, daughter of the late Grace and Dixie Mabrey, was born on December 14, 1928 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. She departed this life on May 20, 2003.Gracie attended the Baltimore Public Schools and was a graduate of Douglass High School, Class of February 1948.After high school, she attended night classes at Carver and Dunbar to take up dressmaking and was a very good seamstress and made most of her clothes and her daughter’s.Gracie worked for Lane Bryant Store for twenty-two years as a cashier and wrapper until the main store closed.A few years later, she attended Community College of Baltimore taking a course in Geriatric Nursing and received a Certified Nursing Assistant Degree.In this field, she worked for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene taking care of the elderly in their homes; a job she enjoyed very much.After her parents became ill, she stayed home taking care of them.After her mother’s death, she worked for the Sheraton Tower Harbor Hotel in the evenings as a turndown attendant. She retired after thirteen years when she became ill.Gracie attended the Perkins Square Baptist church at an early age and was baptized at the age of ten. She was a member of the Junior Usher Board under Mrs. Lottie who kept the girls in line (smile).In her teens, she joined the Junior Choir under Mrs. Floretta Palmer Hyman. She was also a member of the Frank R. Williams Memorial Choir under Mrs. Glennie Mae Fickling.In 1950, she married William Taylor. From that union, two children were born Michelle Renay and Lamont Edward.She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Gracie is survived by one daughter, Michelle Renay Lesane; son, Lamont Edward Taylor; four grandsons, Kevin, Donte, Troy and Derrick; three granddaughters, Andrea, Essence and Ebony; great-granddaughter, Alex; six great-grandsons, Richard, Deonte, Jontae, Damien, Deshawn and Troy, Jr., daughter-in-law, Canda Taylor; great-granddaughter-in-law, Rae Lesane; sister, Jennie Ewell; brother, William Mabrey; devoted ex-husband, William Taylor; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a sister-in-law, Ms. Nettie Major and brother-in-law, Mr. Joseph Taylor.Gracie will be missed by all that loved her. Thank you to all of our friends who stood by us in this time of sorrow.
