Today we assemble to acknowledge and celebrate the new life unto which GLORIA JEAN JACKSON has entered, and eternal life in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.“…A Time to be Born”-Ecclesiastes 3:2 Gloria Jean Williams was born on September 21, 1948 in Berlin, Maryland. She was the third child of the late William and Lottie Williams. Gloria was a spiritual, family oriented, compassionate, and loving woman.“…A Time to be Trained”-Proverbs 22:6 “Glo”, as she was affectionately called, was a product of the Baltimore City school system. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at Coppin State Teachers’ College in the early 1970s.“…A Time to be Saved”-John 30:3 Gloria was baptized and saved at the early age of fourteen. She was a member of several churches as a young woman. Approximately eighteen years ago, she made her church home at First Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church (Bishop Oscar E. Brown) where she and husband Phil remained members until her passing.“…A Time to Love”-Ecclesiastes 3:9 On June 27, 1997, Phillip H. Jackson and Gloria J. Williams entered into Holy Matrimony. She cherished and found much delight in her husband and their three wonderful and talented children (Michelle Jeter, George Raymond Mitchell, Jr. and Shayna Kali Jackson).“…A Time to Labor”- Genesis 3:19 Gloria began her career as a preschool education teacher. She held this position for approximately seven years. Thereafter, she worked as a fashion model (part-time), a marketing district manager, and recruiter. Gloria was later employed at the Baltimore City Department of Social Services where she held several positions over the past twenty years. She had a passion for helping people in need especially impoverished, abused, and neglected children. After many years of working with this population she retired from Social Services and returned to her “true calling”, that of a professional teacher. Gloria loved to teach and her co-workers, friends, and students held a special place in her heart.“… A Time to Laugh and a Time to Dance”- Ecclesiastes 3:4 Gloria loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved the holidays (all holidays) and family outings. Gloria was also very talented. She loved photography, sewing, cooking, crafts, and singing. Gloria has an incredible voice! During the Christmas holidays, Gloria would sing with Phil as he played the guitar. Everyone really enjoyed this, even though they were both very modest about their talents. However, Gloria’s true passion was shopping. That girl could shop from early in the morning until late at night, several times a week!!!“…A Time to be with the Lord”- Numbers 23:10 Gloria Jackson went home to be with Jesus and her parents, who preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her devoted husband (Phillip Jackson), three beautiful children (Michelle Jeter, George Mitchell Jr. and Shayna Jackson); three loving siblings (Steve Williams, Ronald Williams and Joyce Williams-Ryals); four precious grandchildren (Candice Boyd, Shamar Nelson, Rayven and Sharay Mitchell); several loyal nieces and nephews (Leroy and Jackie Henderson, Brian and Barry Williams, Delford and Joann Jimmerson, Clifford Hinnant and Theresa Williams, Steve A. Williams, Joyce “LaVerne” Williams, Angela and Isaiah Williams); daughter-in-law, Shawntay Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Marquerite Wood, Angela Williams, Helen Williams and Marva Jackson; brothers-in-law, George Jackson and Bernard Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends to include Astrina Calame, Joyce Jubilee, Ida Manning, Sylvia Rogers, Deyane Jones-Mumford, who remained devoted to her over several decades.
