Gertrude Bost

Gertrude Florence Bost, beloved daughter of the late Albert and Florence Bost was born September 27, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland passed away peacefully at home Saturday, May 30, 2020 of natural causes. Gertrude attended Frederick Douglas High School in Baltimore City and obtained her Associates Degree from Baltimore Community College. She went on to further her education at several higher learning institutions in Baltimore including Towson University and Johns Hopkins University. However, while attending classes at Morgan State University she met James David Pruden. Whom she would later marry and together birthed and raised their daughter Robin. In the early years of Gertrude’s working career, she was employed by Martin Marietta (company later merged with Lockheed Corporation to form Lockheed Martin) and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. By the end of her career, she had successfully transitioned to work as a personal care nurse taking care of the elderly and close family members. Gertrude enjoyed spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her great grandchildren coined her nickname ‘’Grapefruit’’ and that made her smile, namely because although she enjoyed her role as grandma she didn’t want to be called grandma. She loved home improvement projects, drafting mechanical equipment and tools, sewing, writing poems and short stories. She was a versatile and eager learner throughout all her years. She was ambitious, determined and self-driven but always willing to sacrifice her needs and time for the good of her family. Precious moments of wisdom were always shared; and a warm cup of coffee and good heart felt discussion with her daughter and grandchildren was all she needed to set her mood. Gertrude will be remembered as a selfless, studious, wife, mother and grandmother who always had a smile on her face, even when times were tough. She was very opinionated and brutally honest (oh what a firecracker she was) but also just as sweet as pie. She had a quiet strength, never complained and always optimistic about the future. Preceding her in death: Albert Bost (father), Florence Bost (mother), Albert Bost, Jr. and James Bost (brothers), and Dorothy Barlow and Virginia Bost (sisters). She leaves to rejoice in her memory: Frances Bost (sister), Timothy Bost (brother), Tchosyko “Robin” Thompson (daughter); five grandchildren, Danielle Johnson, Donnell Thompson, Shanell Thompson, Matthew Thompson, and Mark Thompson; nieces, cousins, great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
