George Robert Jiggetts

George Robert Jiggetts, affectionately known as Robbie, was born on March 30, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Willie Monroe Jiggetts, Sr. and Ida Belle (Wooden) Jiggetts. He was preceded in death by his brother Willie M. Jiggetts, Jr. On October 1, 2025, George departed this life to journey to his eternal home in heaven. George was educated by the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating in June 1970 from Edmondson High School. In June 1974, he married, Rene’ Barnes, from this union, their daughter Tia was born. George was a doting father and loving husband for 51 years. Throughout George’s life, his determination to educate himself and others on the human condition, never pass judgement on anyone no matter the walk of life; to encourage everyone to better themselves and family were his main objectives. George started his career as a Substance Abuse Counselor at Lutheran Hospital and continued to work throughout the behavioral health systems of Liberty Medical Systems, Bon Secours Hospital, University of Maryland Medical Systems and Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems. George climbed professionally through the ranks from Counselor to Certified Addiction Counselor and Program Analyst. During his tenure, George earned numerous awards and accolades, but that never changed who he was, he remained humbled. As a dedicated professional with over 40 years of experience, he received the Certificate of Distinguished Service Award from the Drug Abuse Administration, Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Contributions to the Department of Mental Health and Certificate of Appreciation from Morgan State University for Mental Health Trainers Seminar among many others. As George continued to build his knowledge base, he graduated from Lincoln University with his Master’s degree in Human Services. Truly knowing George means you knew he was a “talker”, and he definitely practiced or tested one of those human service theories or skills during the conversation. He would somehow always sneak in a history lesson or more specifically an African American history lesson. Along with those history lessons, George would be intrigued by family lineage and often shared family genealogy notes with his nephew Dante’. George’s service to others was also reflected in his commitment to being a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated. His passion to empower and inspire was demonstrated as he and his AlphaOmega brothers worked arm in arm in community outreach programs. He worked as the chapter Secretary, and he was very serious about keeping accurate notes. Later, George served as one of the first elected officers for the Gamma Omicron Omega chapter, as Secretary, taking the most impeccable minutes. In retirement, George continued to take online classes, working in his garden growing vegetables and flowers. He also enjoyed watching the History Channel and “The Judge Shows”. Conversations with his grandchildren, Chaz and Zoey always brightened his day. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Rene’, daughter Tia Brunson (Harry), grandson Chaz, granddaughter Zoey, Mother Ida Jiggetts, sister Karen McNeil (Robert), brother Ira Jiggetts (Carolyn), aunt Mary Hargrove, mother-in-law Gloria Milliner, sister-in-law Rhonda Young, God-daughters Tonya Scott and Shonda Yates-Joseph, special friends Marvin Hicks, Wayne Dorsey and Lamont McCloud, line brother Michael Gainey and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, friends and colleagues.
