Frank D. Porter

FRANKLIN D. PORTER, SR., son of the late James and Louise Porter, was born on January 10, 1938, in Steens, Mississippi. On Sunday evening, December 23, 2001, God called Franklin to eternal rest. Franklin loved the Lord and confessed Christ at an early age. He expressed tons of unconditional love to his relatives, neighbors and friends. He is known by Frank, William, Porter, Bill, and a man for all seasons. He was always willing to give his services to relatives and friends. Franklin was very quiet and humble; his skills ranged from a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and roofer. He was a “Jack of all trades.” He was educated in the Baltimore City Schools: Fairmount Hill Jr. High (453), Carver Vocational Technical High and later enlisted into the Navy (1956). While in the Navy he traveled to Italy, Spain, Greece, England, France, and Quebec. He received an honorable discharge in 1962.Franklin could build many things just by looking at a picture. He was multi-talented, and inherited gifts from his father (James Porter). He has worked for Mayor Kurt Schmoke and worked on special projects such as Dartmouth Glenn Homes (40-50) at Northern Parkway and York Road. He has remodeled many kitchens, bathrooms and basements. Franklin has left footprints for his family to follow; several of his children have worked with him and continue to keep his legacy alive. Franklin was one of the most kindhearted men in this lifetime. “If I can help someone, my living will not be in vain”. Franklin shared his earnings and talent with his family and friends. If he had it, you had it, and if he didn’t have it, he would get it by the sweat of his brow. Franklin worked from sun up to sun up. Working two jobs to provide for his family. Franklin was a man with a heart of gold and a lot of soul. He was a man of great wisdom, always advising you to do the right thing. He always found a way to help experience joy untold… He was a good listener, good cook, good provider, good father, good husband, good brother, good uncle, and always a good friend. Time was not a factor helping others. He lived to help others, he breathed to help others, he worked each morning to help others, this was Franklin’s purpose in life. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Delores Scott Porter; three sons, Garland E. Scott, Franklin D. Porter, Jr. and Dwayne A. Porter, Sr.; four daughters, Claudette James, Tina Porter, Denise Joyner and Rene A. Porter; twelve grandchildren, Kevin Norris, Shawnta Rogers, Donetta Hill Dwayne A. Porter, Jr., Tyrone Porter, Terrance Porter, Teon James, Shanay Joyner, Shakita Porter, Taryn Porter, Keyshawn K. Scott, and Clinton Sellers; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers Hosea Porter, Herman Porter, and Jimmy Porter; Two sisters, Evelena Coleman and Cittie Riddick; and a host of other relatives and friends.
