To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:A time to be born: Frances E. Melvin, daughter of the late Ella Johnson and Melvin Berry, Sr., was born on October 12, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland.A time to die: She departed this life on January 25, 2002 after a lengthy illness.A time to plant: Frances received her education in the Baltimore City Public School Systems. She worked numerous jobs throughout her lifetime. Her last employment was with the National Gypsum Company in Canton for 25 years. A time to Love: She was joined in holy matrimony to Douglas Melvin, Sr., on July 3, 1977. This union blended their two families into one, Allen Sr., Brian, Tyrone (all who proceeded her in death) and Douglas, Jr. Fannie, as she was affectionately known, was always a true friend and a devoted grandmother. She made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her.A time to Mourn: She leaves to cherish herAngelyn Ann Barnes, daughter of the late Percy L. Jones and Doris Barnes, was born on January 31, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on January 21, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Ann, as she was affectionately called, attended Baltimore City College where she graduated with an Associate Degree in Social Work. She worked at the Baltimore City Association for Retarded Citizens. She was on of the innovators for KIDS LINE, a service where latch key kids could call in while their parents were at work to speak with counselors and talk about various topics. Ann was a devoted person, self-sacrificing, and was truly loved by everyone she knew. She made a lasting impression on everyone. She knew a wide range of people and would do all she could for everyone even at a great expense to herself. She taught the importance of being prepared and organized. She was a go-getter and a person who never gave up. She never let circumstances prevent her from doing what she set out to do. She was intelligent, resourceful, and resilient. She taught us it was never too late for a new beginning. On of her most outstanding talents was her writing and ability to express herself through words, poems and letters. She will be greatly missed by everyone. Ann leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Ditangelique “Spring” Barnes and Latosha Barnes; six sisters, Mabel Jones, Katherine Barnes, Lisa Lawrence, Sharlita Jones, Darlene Barnes and Mariah Barnes; three brothers, Antonio Jones, Norman Barnes and Courtney Barnes; two grandchildren, Deaira Foster and Jerald Burton Ii; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. memory: husband, Douglas Melvin, Sr.; two sisters, Gladys Berry and Celestine Fields; one brother, Melvin Berry, Jr.; stepson, Melvin Douglas, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Elisha Smith; one brother-in-law, George Scott; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends.PEACE BE STILLLord, thank you for a quiet placeRight in the midst of storm,Where I can find a peaceful rest,And shelter from all harm.O how the waves do thrash aboutThrowing me to an fro;But I hear you speaking,“Peace be still”And the turbulence must go.Deep within my heartYour thoughtsBring comfort to my soul,Helping me to onward pressToward that final goalSo I’ll not fearWhen trouble comesNor dread the darkest night,When I hear my Lord say“Peace be still”I know I’ll be alright.Submitted by the Family
