Florence Arnetta Johnson

On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Jesus said, “Come Unto Me and Rest.” Florence Arnetta Johnson, a loving wife, mother and grandmother took her journey to the gates of heaven. Florence was born to the late Florence R. and Arthur Lee Brown, Sr. on October 9, 1950. She was predeceased in death by her two siblings, Arthur Lee Brown, Jr. and Catherine V. Davis. She expressed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. She was an active member of the E. B. Brown Memorial Usher Ministry, the Culinary Ministry and Sunday School. Florence graduated from Virginia Randolph High School, the class of 1969. She retired from Verizon after 32 years of service. After retirement, she worked for the County of Henrico Public Schools for 10 years. “Net” as she was so fondly called, loved her family and friends. With her traveling partner, Michael, they went to Ghana, South Africa, St. Martin and cruised the Bahamas. On one occasion they traveled from the East to the West coast on Route 66 driving, Mustang Sally. She posed for pictures in front of every state sign they visited. She loved going to her home in Georgia to see her grandchildren. Her greatest excitement was going to their basketball and football games, concerts, honor assemblies or whatever they were involved in. She enjoyed the annual breakfast outing with the Usher ministry which always included a trip to Macy’s. The birthday lunches with her Verizon friends Cheryl, Barbara and Cindy were always so special to her. Net touched the lives of so many people with her loving heart and untold compassion for others. Her smile would light up the room. She had a pleasing and mild mannered personality until her toes were stepped on, and that nose would spread and someone would get a piece of her mind. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 39 years, Michael S. Johnson; 2 sons, Raphael M. (Alicia) and Jerrel R. (Kamechia) Johnson; 6 grandchildren, Serai and Jamel Johnson, Saevon Hudson, Damarion and Zoe Crowder and Korrie Usher; 4 sisters, Susie B. Porter (Ronald), Florine E. Brown, Sandra A. Brown and Joyce A. Johnson (Robert); 2 brothers, Ernest L. (Charlotte) and Charlie P. Brown; 2 aunts, Irene R. Bagby and Dora J. Robinson; uncle, Norman L. Randolph (Ceressa); 4 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mauer (James), Josephine (James), Altangla Marie and Yolanda Johnson; godchild, Brianna Powell; her childhood friend, Elaine Robinson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
