Finley R. Day Sr.

Finley Ricardo Day, Sr., 70, the second son of the late Dolores and Julius N. Day, Sr. was born on October 10, 1955, in the community of Washington Park. Finley was preceded in death by his two children Tiffany and Finley, Jr. “Ricky”, his sister, Sonja Bonita; brother Lyndon Cedric; and one grandchild Mario Day-Christian. Nottie and Finley were raised as twins. Their mother dressed them as such in their early years. Finley graduated from John Marshall High in 1973, where he played football. Finley started his post high school employment at Western Electric. There he met co-workers who loved him dearly even to his death. A sports enthusiast he went on to coach little league football teams. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and was a football guru. Among one of Finley’s most enjoyable jobs was that of a Point Man at Richmond’s City Hall. His duty was to see that visitors were pointed in the correct direction as they entered this 20-story structure. Not only did he see that they reached their destinations, he also was able to point persons to other buildings in such a busy environment. Celebrities occasionally crossed his path as well. He was a God-fearing man and followed his late mother and grandmother habits of being active in his church, Mt. Tabor Baptist. He served as an usher and was regular in attendance until a battery of illnesses took over his life. He managed to keep moving and several of his dear friends sometimes took turns driving him to scheduled doctor appointments and treatments. One such person was Rev. Alan Parker and as well as other Mt. Tabor associates. Finley is survived by one loving brother, Julius N. Day Jr. (Annette), granddaughter, Ayanna Day-Christian; uncle, Tyrone and auntie (Vanesta) Gaines are two of his favorites, a dedicated; niece, Sonya Day; dedicated nephew, Jermaine Day (Shanell), Brandon Branch-Day, Jenisha Day, Shasoki White, and Donshiya White; uncle Finley as they called him adored his great-nieces and nephews, Michael Turner Jr., Makiyah Turner, Jayce Day, Christopher Carter, Jermaine A. Day Jr. “Sonny” and Ja’Tasia Wooden; a host of loving and caring cousins and friends who cared for him beyond measure; one special friend Troy Billups; along with a host of other relatives.
