Evelyn Mosley Ragin

EVELYN M. RAGIN, was born on May 13, 1927 to the late Emma and Phil Mosley. On January 10, 2011 she fell asleep after a short illness. Evelyn had eight siblings, four brothers and three sisters which preceded her in death. Evelyn was educated in Red Oak, Virginia and graduated from Central High School in Red Oak. She was a lifelong student. Evelyn attended Strayer BusinessUniversity, Sojourner-Douglass College, and received a Geriatric Aid Certification from Anne Arundel Community College. She always believed in education. Evelyn had several jobs. She worked as a seamstress and at Gulf Oil Company, which later became Chevron Oil, She retired from Chevron at age sixty-two. Evelyn continued to work after her retirement from Chevron and was employed for eighteen years at Broadmead Continuing, Care Retirement Community. After eighteen years of dedicated service she retired once again on December 9, 2010. She was once married to the late Charles E. Ragin. Out of this marriage was born three children, Shirley Makell, Charles Ragin, Jr. who preceded her in death, and Michael Ragin. She also had one grandchild, Joseph Holmes, Jr. who preceded her in death. As a young child Evelyn was baptized at Selem Baptized Church in Red Oak,Virginia. Upon hearing the three angels message Evelyn was baptized in 1954 at the Ephesus Seven-Day Adventist Church in Richmond, Virginia. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland and transferred her membership to Berea Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church. While on her life’s journey Evelyn was determined to stick with the message and transferred her membership to the Beacon Light Seven-Day Adventist Church in Annapolis, Maryland where she once lived. She was a member there for fifteen years. After moving once again to Baltimore Evelyn transferred her membership back to Berea Temple where she was a member until she passed. Evelyn was a kind and loving person and had a smile that would melt anyone who came in contact with her. She truly loved the Lord and all she wanted to do was to see Jesus. She lived the life of a Virtuous 31 Women. Over the years Evelyn served Berea Temple faithfully as an usher and a member of the Fifty-Plus Club, and Kings Daughters. She was always willing to share her love and nursing skills to help with funerals at the church. She was a member of the Ten of Us Club. Left with beautiful memories of Evelyn are: her daughters, Shirley Makell; son, Micheal Ragin (Priscilla); five grandchildren, Ronnell Fortune (Mark), Wellington Makell, Donte Springgs, Micheal and Makala Ragin. Also left to cherish her memory: one sister, Bessie Whitehead; sister-in-law, Henrietta Mosley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, her church family, neighbors and friends. She will be missed by very devoted daughter-in-law, Priscilla Jones; her very special and devoted friends, Sylvia Moore, Louise Davis, Bert Sinkler, Phyllis Waters and family, Dorothy Brown, Shirley Dickens, Barbara Johnson and Elder Francis Harris and family. She will be missed as well by her two devoted nieces, Nannie Johnson and Rosa Marie Shields.
