Evelyn Elizabeth Lambson

EVELYN ELIZABETH LAMBSON, daughter of the late Bertie and George Payne, was born on December 25, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland. On the early morning of December 2, 2011, she departed this journey to eternal life after a short battle with cancer. Evelyn was educated and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1942 and later attended Morgan State University where she majored in Physical Education. Evelyn taught in the Baltimore City Public School System for many years and a short time at Saint Pius V School. Evelyn tutored young people in reading and was passionate about teaching and education. As she was prone to say, “Children are my top priority.” Evelyn met and married the late Elmer Lester Lambson. They were blessed with five children: Althea, Rodney, Andrea, Laura and Karl. Nana, as she was affectionately known to many, was “feisty” in her own way, yet lived a very active life. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and worked at the Board of Elections as a Chief Judge for more than thirty years. She also took in and cared for many children throughout her lifetime. Evelyn loved the Lord. She was baptized Catholic, but later jointed the Holiness faith. She was a woman of strong faith and had a special interpersonal relationship with the Lord. Thus, she committed herself and her life to serving God. She was a devoted member of King’s Deliverance Holiness Church Inc. under the leadership of Bishop John Jones. Mother Lambson, as she was known by her family, served on both the local and national levels. In her local assembly, she was the Church Mother, Deaconess, Missionary and Vice President of the Pastor’s Aide. She also served as the Spiritual Advisor for the Holiness Youth Association (HYA). On the nation level she was a member of the Executive Board, and she served as National Mother. Evelyn possessed a deep love for her family, friends, and all who came into her life which was also demonstrated as she extended a listening ear, encouraging and soothing words and her warm heart. Her loving spirit was always felt by those who came in contact with her. She will be sorely missed by all, but her legacy of love will remain on our hearts forever. As she joins those who have preceded her in death including her son, Rodney J. Lambson-Baptiste, she leaves to rejoice her life and cherish her loving memory her children; Althea M. Faulkner, Andrea E. Grant, Laura C. Lambson, and Karl A. Lambson; a stepson Ernest Cook; one daughter-in-law, Odessa Lambson and one son-in-law Charles Grant, Sr. 6 grandchildren, Rodney Lambson, Jr., Andrea N. Pearson, Charles Grant Jr., Ojeni Generette, Issa Lambson, and Kayla Lambson; 5 great-grandchildren, Jada, Jazmine, Daija, Giselle and Damia (Baby Doll); and a host of step-grandchildren, relatives and dear friends.
