Emma Williams

EMMA ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, affectionately known as Ma-Ma departed this life on May 29, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 5, 1931 in Baltimore, MD and was the eldest of seven daughters born to the late James H and Thelma Thompson Smith. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System until she developed Rheumatic Fever and was told she had six months to live but giving glory and honor to God she graced us with 81 years. On April 11, 1970, Emma married Rudolf Williams the love of her life and shared 30 years until his death. She was a proud and devoted mother of two daughters; Linda M. Warren and Cheryl D. Moody who both loved her unconditionally. During her illness, she stayed with her daughter Linda who provided exceptional care. Emma was employed by Hot Shoppes of Baltimore for over 20 years and served as the head cook and manager until they went out of business. Her next employer was Western Electric and retired from there after 17 years of service. Her many talents included dancing, tailoring and floral arrangements. She had a passion for creating floral arrangements and money flowers and corsages. This provided her income and great pleasure in retirement. Additionally, she loved family time and planning family events. She especially enjoyed “Everybody’s Birthday Party” and the Annual Family Picnic. Emma was baptized into the Catholic faith in 1950 as a member of St. Francis Xavier. In 1963, she joined and became an active member of the St Edwards Roman Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail and even then she insisted on attending. Her devoted niece Antonia Williams took her every Sunday. Ma-Ma’s quiet, humble spirit would always leave an indelible impression on everyone she met. Her faithfulness to living a godly life was a testament that she knew the grace of God and wanted share it and her love with family and friends. Emma’s sisters Lenora Smith and Marguerite Smith and one brother-in-law, David S. Jones preceded her in eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters – Linda Warren and Cheryl Moody; grandchildren – Kevin Rhodes, Sean Rhodes, Myron Fulton, Nikkia Williams, Charles Bugg II, LaShay Williams, and Tayler Williams; sisters – Esther Jones, Thelma Brookes (Marshall), Gwendolyn Smith and Phyllis Smith; two uncles- George Thompson and Raymond Thompson; 39 great-grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
