Elizabeth Sellers

Elizabeth Mary Sellers, the adopted laughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dabney, was born on September 19, 1916 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She departed this life on Friday, January 16, 2004.She was Baptist and received her Christian education at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. Elizabeth married the late Robert F. Sellers Sr. in Charlottesville, Virginia on November 10, 1931. They moved to Washington D.C., where they resided for three years and later moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1934, where they lived and raised their family to this day.Elizabeth was active on the Board of Directors for Urban services, Board of Directors for the Northwest Inner City Credit Union and a member of the Parents Committee of the George Kelson Elementary School.She believed in the extended family and helped to raise many children outside of her immediate family. Her door was always opened for all that needed food, shelter and a listening ear for wisdom and love.She was Matriarch of Baltimore City; she was very crafty in the areas of dressmaking, crocheting, knitting, upholstery, canning food and gardening. She was known for her homemade rolls, soups and stews.She held a passion for shopping and was affectionately known for her lady-life style of dressing. She always accessorized her dress with flair and coordination.She was lovingly known as Mama, Pretty Lady, Liz, Fats, Mrs. Sellers, The Queen and Big Mama.One child, Artemis Sellers, preceded her in death.She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Robert F. Sellers Jr., Cynthia S. McCrorey Muhammad, Alethea Booze, Lavenia Lane-Johnson, Drusilla Bunch, Aquilla Sellers Carey, Tobias Sellers and Lanna Berry; sons-in-law, Herbert Johnson, David Byrd, Alric Berry (Chris) and Stanley Carey; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Sellers; sisters-in-law, Helen S. Gwynn and Gertrude S. Gamble; brothers-in-law, Lewis T. Gwynn and Eugene Gamble; twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.The following loved ones adopted Elizabeth as their mother, Carol Ann Chisholm, Joseph (Scottie) Collins, Lynette (Pooh) Long, Danena (Nina) Ward and Sandra (Sandy) Waters.
