Elizabeth Curbeam

Mrs. Elizabeth C. Curbeam, daughter of the late Rev. D.C. Chisolm and Mary Holley Chisolm, was born on April 18, 1929, in Fairfield County, South Carolina. After a long illness, she departed this life early Sunday morning of April 20, 2008 at Union Memorial Hospital.Elizabeth gave he life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield County, South Carolina.She was united in marriage to James B. Curbeam on August 10, 1952 and they resided in Baltimore, Maryland. Five children were born to this union; two sons and three daughters.After moving to Baltimore she became a member of New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Joseph Culp. She served on the Culp Jubilee, Gospel Choir, Pastor's Aide Ministry and the Missionary Ministry until her illness.In 1982 she joined Excelsior Chapter #41 order of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1987.Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, favorite saying were; "Don't Put Your Faith In Man, Put It In The Lord", and "Take One Day At A Time". She had several nicknames: Liz, Midget, Hun, Shorty, and was called Jitter Bug by her husband who she called Hooley or Cannon-Ball. She was a dedicated wife, mother, homemaker, and seamstress. Her family will always remember her cooking, caring, and support of all her family members. Her love will be greatly missed as well as her Mac&Cheese, Chicken&Dumplings, Biscuits, Cornbread, Cakes, and OH YES her SWEET POTATO PIES. Surely, as we continue to gather for prayer and dinner Mom will be with us in spirit.She leaves to cherish to her memory: Husband James B. Curbeam; five children, James Curbeam Jr., L'Tanya Carmichael, Charles Curbeam, Helen Curbeam, and Towanda Browder; one sister, Pinkey Miller of Greensboro, North Carolina, (three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death; Lee Gaston, Ella Hopkins, and Pearlean Coley; and Willie, Roosevelt, Sylessie and Arthur Chisolm); two uncles; Lindsey Chisolm of Brooklyn, New York and Brawley Chisolm of Bronx, New York; seven grandchildren; Larrisha and Lanesha Carmichael, Makeda and Shaniece Curbeam, Lynnette Harris, Andre Jenninigs and Rakia Browder; seven great grands; India, Ky'Ree, Dequan, Darrius, Destiny, Deonte, and Angel; two sons in law; Larry Carmichael and Nicholas Browder; two daughters in law, Lisa Curbeam and Veronica Curbeam; seven sister in law; Betty Chisolm, Cattie Chisolm, Tommie Lee Jones, Rebecca Ray, Willie Mae Anderson of Dunbar, West Virgina, Tiny Mae Curbeam, and Beatrice Curbeam; four brothers in law; Wardell Hopkins of Chester, South Carolina, Robert Ray, Joe Curbeam, and Johnny Anderson of Dunbar, West Virginia, one god-daughter; Rosemary Richmond of Gastonia, North Carolina, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
