Dorothy Mae Ford-Fleet

MOTHER DOROTHY MAE FLEET, the eldest of three daughters, was born on September13, 1931 to the late James S. Ford and Jennie Ruth Bell Ford in Baltimore, Maryland. She was educated in the Baltimore Cit School System. Her early childhood was full of love and joy with her parents,sisters, family and friends. She was joined in holy matrimony to Charles Fleet. She was the mother of five children. She had a long career as a Nurse, working at both local and state hospital. She retired from Spring Grove State Hospital. Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies, among her favorite pastime activities were, reading, working, crossword puzzles and crocheting. She was also an avid movie buff, with a special fondness of Westerns and Classic Romance stories. Mother Fleet joined the Church of the New Covenant in the year 1996, and immediately she had the kind of impact on her fellow members as an outgoing lovable person. She became very close with the church member and travel with them to many places. Sister Antionette Pernal and Minister Sharon Claude made sure that Mother Fleet had transportation for doing such things. Mother Fleet served as a member of the Inspirational Choir and was admired for the way she led the choir processional with her bouncy stepping. She served as an usher until it became a little more than she could embrace. She was very much a part of the church outreach ministries; the Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Nursing Home and Vacation Bible School. Mother Fleet demonstrated a love for the Word of God, evidenced by her participation in the Sunday School, Bible Class and prayer services. We will always remember and admire the example of strength and faith during her difficult time of illness. She was a true example of the spirit that is conveyed in the song- “ I Won't Complain”. Let the record show that this Mother of Zion, Mother Dorothy Mae Fleet was one who entered the sanctuary with joy, always excited about coming together with the people of God. After God saw that her work in this earthly realm was finished, and her body had endured afflictions long enough, He removed her from earth to dwell with Him forever in glory. She leaves to cherish her loving memory; sister, Ruth Isaac; two daughters, Drusilla Ford and Cheryl Jacobs ; son, Darryl Fleet; son-in-law, Ronald Jacobs; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew; and a host of family and friends.
