Denise E. Cook

Denise Elizabeth Cook was born on November 22, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland to Ronald and the late Darlene Hunter. After valiantly fighting a lengthly and debilitating illness, on Monday, April 10, 2017, while being cradled in the arms of her loving husband, Denise made her ascension into heavenly glory. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" 2 Timothy 4:7. Educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, Denise graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High Scool. After matriculation at the Stratford Business College, Denise began her employment with the State of Maryland, State Highway Administration (SHA) on October 28, 1981. Throughout her 35 year career span with SHA, Denise served the organization as a Data Device Operator in the Office of Finance; an Administrator for Training Programs for the Office of Organizational Development; a Training Manager for the Office of Material and Technology; and, as the Manager of the Human Resourses Team for the Hanover Complex. Throughout her career, Denise received numerous accommodations, letters of achievement, in addition to a myriad of Governor's Citations for Outstanding Work. Denise retired from the State Highway Administration on August 31, 2016. Denise was not only dedicated to her professional life. In 1995 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became extremely devoted to her Christian walk. Over the years, Denise was connected to various ministries where her talents and God-given gifts of singing and liturgical dance were ignited. Her dedication to her faith and her artistry was appreciated by many, locally, nationally, and internationally. She shared her spirit-filled vocal ability with the Whosoever Will Choir, the Wayne B. and Friends Ensemble, and many others to include recording with various singing groups and artists. One of Denise's fondest memories was when she was afforded the opportunity to sing at the Karlskitche Church in Vienna, Austria. Denise proclaimed that God sent her the absolute love of her life and and on September 20, 2013, Denise and Charles were wed in holy matrimony. Together, they lived life to the fullest. Denise lived this life with poise, strength, tenacity, unwavering faith, a dynamic smile, and an authentically generous heart. Although her earthly journey is now complete, left to cherish her memory and tasked to be a reflection of Denise's legacy are: her loving and devoted husband, Charles; three children, Candice, Daniel, and Briah; two step-children, Kelly and Cameron; two grandchildren, Kaylin and Kaleb; father and step-mother Ronald and Betty Hunter; grandmother, Shirley Smith; sister, Cindy Gray; brother, Ronald Hunter, Jr. (Kapriel); mother-in-law, Rosa M. Cook; two brothers-in-law, Tony Cook and Timothy Cook; sister-in-law, Angela D. Cook; and a host of other family and friends. Denise's handprint and heartprint will be with us all, forever!
